As we often note here, and on The Teri O’Brien Show, most mass shootings in this country occur in so-called “gun free” zones, created by silly, well-intentioned people who somehow think that lunatics who are prepared to commit murder will somehow be dissuaded by not wanting to violate a rule against carrying weapons. Fortunately, yesterday in Pennsylvania, Dr. Lee Silverman wasn’t having any of that nonsense, and as a result, he probably saved the lives of many innocent people. From Bearing Arms:
The local police chief suggests that Silverman’s decision to ignore the “gun free zone” signs may have prevented a hospital massacre:
Yeadon Police Chief Donald Molineux said that ‘without a doubt, I believe the doctor saved lives.’
‘Without that firearm, this guy (the patient) could have went out in the hallway and just walked down the offices until he ran out of ammunition,’ the chief said.
The hospital has a policy barring anyone except on-duty law enforcement officers from carrying firearms on the property.
Because Silverman ignored this ineffective law, police say that lives were saved.
By violating the hospital system’s weapon policy Dr. Silverman will likely lose his job.
Because he ignored the policy, however, he and others didn’t lose their lives.
I certainly hope that this heroic doctor is not fired for violating the hospital’s ridiculous policy. Once again, the Founders wisdom in including the 2nd amendment in our precious Constitution is vindicated. I only wish Teresa Hunt, who was murdered by this wackjob, had been packing.
