Wait–I heard that these convicted criminals were all guilty of “non-violent” drug crimes, which as I have previously noted here and on The Teri O’Brien Show, is ridiculous on its face. What does he think all those people in his adopted home town Chicago are killing each other over?
But, we all know that Barack Obama is VERY concerned about gun crimes. We know because he tells us constantly. So does Hillary Clinton. They ujst want “sensible, “common sense” gun “regulations to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.
So why is Obama commuting the sentences of people who violated gun laws?
From The Daily Caller:
President Barack Obama announced on Wednesday that he is shortening prison sentences for 214 federal prisoners, 56 of whom have firearms related convictions on their records.
The mass commutation is the largest ever issued in a single day U.S. history, the White House said in a press release.
Obama has now shortened sentences for 562 federal prisoners, more than the nine previous presidents combined. Nearly 200 of those prisoners were serving life sentences, including 67 of the felons in the most recent batch of commutations.
While Obama has said that he wants to commute sentences for nonviolent drug criminals, the latest commutations suggest that the administration is lowering the bar by shortening sentences for gun criminals.
Once again, Obama is “historic.” From USA Today:
Political scientist P.S. Ruckman Jr., who tracks pardon and commutation data, said it’s the largest one-day grant of commutations in history. The previous record: July 26, 1935, when President Franklin Roosevelt issued 151 for immigration-related offenses.
I noted the stupidity of calling these drug crimes “non-violent” here in this post:
Non-violent crimes? Here’s how stupid this man is. His own adopted home town, Chicago, is a hot bed of murder and mayhem. Why? Because of the drug trade! Whenever a football star or honor student gets caught in the crossfire, this jackass exploits the tragedy as an opportunity to express his contempt for the 2nd Amendment, part of that icky document of “negative liberties,” the Constitution that he completely despises. Never does he mention the fact that it is drug dealing that fuels the violence, not the rights of law abiding Americans.
Also check out the post and read what Jon Adler, president of Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, had to say about this wrong-headed policy in a piece in Police Magazine.
Finally, as also noted in that post, last year two members of Congress, Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) wrote to Attorney General Loretta Lynch requesting information. Like everything this most transparent administration in history does, when in comes to these commutations, they haven’t given any answers.
