Note to House GOP: Avoid This Deal Like the Plague

It should be clear from Obama’s cringe-inducing chest-thumping media event, with a bunch of probable National Education Association cows as a backdrop, in which he crowed

“You know, keep in mind that just last month, Republicans in Congress said they would never agree to raise tax rates on the wealthiest Americans,” Obama said, taking a jab at Republicans. “Obviously the agreement that’s currently being discussed would raise those rates and raise them permanently.”

that his entire objective with this adamant insistence on stealing more from productive citizens is to destroy the Republican party by getting them to betray the voters who sent them to Washington by raising taxes. Are John Boehner, Eric Cantor, and the rest of the leadership dumb enough to take the bait? I hope not.

Check this out, from Red State:

According to the Congressional Budget Office, the bill increases tax revenue by $620 billion while reducing spending by only $15 billion. That’s right a 41:1 ratio of tax increases to spending cuts. When Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush increased taxes in return for spending the ratios were 3:1 and 2:1 respectively.  We should remember that while those tax increases happened, the promised spending cuts did not.

41:1?!! Is this the “balanced approached” the the lying Dear Reader bleats on endlessly about?

What the Republicans need to do is have NO part of this bill. Come back on Thursday and pass a bill LOWERING taxes on everyone making less than $1 million. If it was good enough for Chuckie Schumer and Nancy Pelosi last year, it should be good enough now.

My answer to McConnell and Biden would be like Harry W.O. Kinnard’s answer to the Germans: “Nuts.”
