Obama’s Gangsta Green Scheme: A Win-Win, More Payback for Evil Amerika, Plus a Useful Distraction

Candidate Barack Hussein Obama Telling Us About His Plans to Bankrupt the Coal Industry

Another day, another petulant Obama lecture, featuring the usual elements, including:

  • Vilifying those who dare to disagree with him (“Flat Earth Society, seriously?)
  • Brilliant Arguments Waged Against Strawmen
  • Complete Intellectually Dishonesty

This time the subject was one of his favorite hobby horses, “climate change.” As predicted during last week’s show, he is planning yet another end run around Congress to impose these destructive policies. Congress would never agree to these job-killing plans, so he’s using one of the most destructive forces at work on the planet today, the Environmental Protection Agency. They wanted to impeach Nixon for that stupid Watergate burglary. They should have impeached him over establishing the EPA, a knife in the heart to the American way of life and capitalism.

No one should be surprised. He told us back in 2008 that this war on coal was exactly what he wanted to do. If you don’t believe that, consider this comment from one of his senior advisers on energy, cheerleading for the “war on coal.”

“The one thing the president really needs to do now is to begin the process of shutting down the conventional coal plants,” Daniel P. Schrag, a member of the President’s Council of Advisers on Science and Technology, told the New York Times. ”Politically, the White House is hesitant to say they’re having a war on coal. On the other hand, a war on coal is exactly what’s needed.”

Any questions?

This proposal will raise energy prices on those least able to afford it. It will destroy jobs, and take away consumer choice. If you voted for Obama, congratulations. You voted for higher utility bills, and the really good news is that anything we do to prevent future “climate change” by crippling our economy will have zero affect on the planet overall.

As usual, the silly, wet-behind-the-ears young’uns and soccer mommies who take a break from watching “Ellen” and “The View” to tell their friends how thrilled they are that their man-child president is “doing something” about “climate change” are clueless.  Mark Jacobson, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Stanford University is not, and here’s what he says:

President Barack Obama gave a high-profile speech this afternoon at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, to announce a massive new government plan designed to address climate change. But the plan, details of which were released by the White House on Tuesday morning ahead of the president’s speech, won’t do much to help fix the problems of pollution and global warming, and may actually make things worse overall, according to independent climate experts.

“It’s amazing how little this all actually does,” said Mark Jacobson, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Stanford University. “In many ways, this makes things worse.” Jacobson, who has spent years researching the link between air pollution and human health in the United States, points out that the White House’s seemingly bold objective to curb carbon pollution by 3 billion metric tons by 2030 actually equates to cutting about one-fortieth of all pollution produced by the US energy sector each year. “The numbers are so trivial, it’s almost like a gimmick,” he said. Another part of the White House’s plan, to increase the amount of renewable energy projects on federal lands enough to power 6 million homes by 2020, is “embarrassingly trivial,” in a country of over 130 million housing units, said Jacobson.

Jacobson also takes specific issue with part of the president’s plan that calls for the US Energy Department to provide $8 billion in loan guarantees to what the plan calls “advanced fossil energy projects.” Jacobson and other experts say that this term refers to one idea in particular: installing new equipment to capture carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants, and attempting to pump it back into underground storage areas, where it won’t get into the atmosphere for many years. Such a technique could reduce between 85-90 percent of carbon emissions from coal plant smokestacks, according to estimates of companies pursuing it.

The idea sounds good in principle, but the science behind it remains largely unproven. “There’s not even a single commercialized coal-with-carbon-capture plant” in the US, Jacobson pointed out. Indeed, several companies have abandoned attempts to build such plants in recent years after deciding the costs would be too high and incurring opposition from environmental groups.

Eight billion dollars in loan guarantees? I wonder which democrat party donors will be getting those …

If you disagree, please tell me what am I and folks that Prof. Jacobsen are missing? Given China and India are opening a new coal fired plant every week, how exactly will this latest brilliant idea from this genius solve the problem of “global warming?” How exactly will unilateral energy disarmament help? Unless, of course, this proposal is less about “carbon pollution” than it is about cutting this country down to size, one of his goals since he was sitting in Rev. Wright’s pew, eagerly absorbing every America-hating word.

As also noted during last week’s show, this speech and the policy announced today had two objectives. The speech was designed to appeal to his vacuous base, obsessed with this “green” foolishness and angry about the NSA spying. He can say “Look, my agencies may have been eavesdropping, but I’m all about the environment,” and the fools who support this jackass will be impressed. The policy itself is designed to hobble the United States, because it’s “unfair” that we have been allowed to be the world’s lone super power, at least for a few more weeks. More payback for racist Amerika!

This green scheme also has the benefit of allowing for more crony capitalist schemes like Solyndra. He wants to artificially make solar energy competitive with coal and other proven energy technologies, which without the government’s thumb on the scale, they are not.

Of course, no story about Barack Obama demagoguing an issue would be complete without accompanying liberal hypocrisy. In this case, it’s interesting that exports of American coal have increased during every year of his presidency. From USA Today:

The U.S. coal industry, under increasing pressure at home after President Obama’s call Tuesday for tougher anti-pollution rules, is ratcheting up a more promising part of its business: exports.

Coal exports set a monthly record in March, driven largely by rising demand from its top customer, China, and other Asian countries, according to the most recent data from the Energy information Administration. While domestic consumption has had recent dips, exports have steadily climbed — from 39.6 million short tons in 2002 to a record 125.7 million short tons last year.

More on coal exports here in the Christian Science Monitor. So, repeating, if he’s so concerned about “global” warming, why is does he want to cripple America by killing jobs and raising energy prices while allowing China and India to run circles around us by using coal to fuel their economic growth? I might also ask why he is flying Air Force One on this week’s boondoggle to Africa, with Moochelle on board. C’mon, hauling that huge caboose around causes LOTS of carbon emissions.

Of course, there was another reason for this annoying speech, and that goes back to what I noted here; that is, that like another successful, albeit much better looking, con man, Don Draper, Barack Obama understands that when you don’t like what they’re saying, you should change the conversation. There are three things that he’d rather we not notice; specifically,

  • The amnesty for illegals making its way through the Senate
  • The IRS targeting of his “enemies,” which the Lame Stream Media is trying to pretend never happen and has been laid to rest, that’s far from the case.
  • His $100 million trip to Africa, starting tomorrow, with the repellant First Klingon in tow.

If there was any doubt that this speech, and the policy it announced, was a disaster for the United States, the fact that the Gorebot pronounced it “best speech ever” should resolve that.
