Cry me a river, incompetent Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and rest of leeching democrats.
Part of my soft drink stash, purchased 6/30/17
From DNA Info:
CHICAGO — Cook County’s “pop tax” — which had been set to add a penny per ounce to the cost of sweetened drinks — will remain blocked until at least July 21, a Cook County judge ruled Tuesday.
Judge Daniel Kubasiak, who blocked the tax from going into effect July 1, will hold a hearing on what he called the “significant constitutional issues” raised by the tax before deciding whether to permanently block the tax from being implemented.
Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle said approximately 1,100 county employees will get layoff notices next week as county officials scramble to make up for the $68 million the tax was expected to bring in through the end of 2017 and the $200 million it was expected to bring in during 2018. (emphasis mine)
Nice numbers that you pulled out of your ass, Ms. Preckwinkle, but I think you are forgetting one teensy weensy thing; specifically, there are hundreds of thousands of us who will drink warm tap water before we would pay you one miserable sous (as they used to say in those 18th century novels).
Fortunately, we won’t have to do that, even if this unfair and unconstitutional tax is allowed to be imposed on Cook County, because we will be traveling to DuPage County to buy our soft drinks. That’s what I’ll be doing once my stash runs out.
And guess what? While we are there, we will buy our paper towels, our dog food, our frozen pizzas, our shampoo and the Clorox wipes I always take to the gym. (I definitely recommend that everyone use them there!) You think I’m going to make a trip to the next county, which granted is only about 4 miles from where I live, and just get the Diet Coke and the Propel water? Uh no.
So that $200 million you are looking for is a pipe dream. Just ask your fellow liberty-hating democrat Rahm “Tiny Dancer” Emanuel. He was expecting over $9 million from his moronic plastic bag tax which went into effect in February over the first year. So far, it has generated only $2.4 million. Of course, fellow patriots, maybe the objective isn’t really revenue generation at all. Maybe it’s controlling our behavior.
You imbeciles are like a low-performing, D-player employee basing his budget on the 10% raises he’s going to get every year in the future, when the reality is he’ll be lucky if he isn’t fired in about 5 minutes, which is what should happen to all of you.
