More Evidence that Liberals are Low Information Loudmouths: Bush’s 2007 Immigration Law, and How Obama Killed it

Several days ago, an Obama Kool-Aid drinker posted this graphic on Facebook, which is rapidly becoming the on-line asylum for 60-something goofs to display their glittering ignorance.

W and Immigration

Prepare yourself for a shock, Kids. This poor liberal is obviously a low-information loudmouth. Unlike many of us, who remember all too well that George W. Bush tried to foist “comprehensive immigration reform” (read amnesty) on us in 2007, she has no clue about the facts. Instead, she falls back on her hackneyed, knee-jerk response to any problem in our country, “it’s Bush’s fault!”

Let me school this brainless dimwit and others of her ilk. Listen and learn, my low-information friends. As I said, Pres. George W. Bush, along with Sen. John McCain and Sen. Lindsay (John McCain Jr.) Graham did try to do something about immigration, something that I and many other conservatives fought hard to stop. After extensive negotiations, the Senate found a compromise that could pass. And the guy who killed it was a senator from Illinois named Barack Hussein Obama.

From a 2007 column by the late Robert Novak:

Democrat Byron Dorgan, who seldom has tasted legislative success during 15 years in the Senate, scored a dubious victory last week. He was able to insert a poison pill in the immigration reform bill that aimed at emasculating the essential guest worker program. The 49 to 48 vote that passed Dorgan’s amendment included surprising support from two prominent first-term senators: Jim DeMint, a conservative Republican from South Carolina, and Barack Obama, a Democratic presidential candidate from Illinois.

Dorgan pushed his killer amendment by voicing the Great Plains populism of his home state of North Dakota, but the measure was the product of organized labor. DeMint, normally counted on to oppose anything with the union label, voted for the Dorgan amendment admittedly for the sole purpose of killing the immigration bill. Obama’s vote was even more surprising, considering his participation in the closed-door bipartisan drafting of the immigration compromise that actually had secured a major change.

The Dorgan amendment is a classic poison pill: designed to kill, not improve, the bill. Its passage makes resurrection of immigration reform all the more difficult. Decisive votes by DeMint and Obama were not appreciated by the bipartisan group that had crafted the bargain intended to secure America’s borders while permitting an orderly flow of temporary workers.

I love the way that Bob Novak calls out Obama for the phony, lying backstabber that he is. He was in there with both hands, trying to craft this amnesty in 2007, but when his union puppet masters gave him his marching orders, he did a 180. That’s why Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-SC) went nuts on the Senate floor. More about that here and here.

As I often say, liberals are like children who believe a lot of fairy tales. As a grownup, I feel obligated to continue to push back the frontiers of ignorance (H/T Walter E. Williams).
