Here We Go: Air Strikes over Syrian Territory Begin. Under What Legal Authority? Remember, The Law is Irrelevant

From USA Today:

The U.S. military has begun air strikes against Islamic State targets in Syria late Monday, as the war ordered by President Obama against the militant organization took on an urgent new phase.

The Pentagon acknowledged responsibility for the attack in a brief statement.

“I can confirm that U.S. military and partner nation forces are undertaking military action against ISIL terrorists in Syria using a mix of fighter, bomber and Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles,” said Rear Adm. John Kirby, the Pentagon press secretary. “Given that these operations are ongoing, we are not in a position to provide additional details at this time.”

I’ll repeat what I asked on yesterday’s edition of The Teri O’Brien Show: under what auspices does Obama launch air strikes over a sovereign nation that has not attacked the U.S.?

  1. As we heard on today’s edition of The Teri O’Brien Show, the Regime says they don’t need Congressional authority because of the Authorization of Use of Force passed in 2001, and 2002, even though two months ago Susan Rice wrote to Congress and asked them to repeal the latter authorization.
