Happy Mother’s Day to you and your moms!
All these years I thought it was “Mothers’ Day,” only to recently learn that Anna Jarvis, who organized the first observance of the holiday in 1908, called it “Mother’s Day,” a day to celebrate your own mother, according to Katharine Antolini of West Virginia Wesleyan College who “Memorializing Motherhood: Anna Jarvis and the Defense of Her Mother’s Day” as her Ph.D. dissertation. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson made it official, designating the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.
Also, Ms. Jarvis strongly disapproved of the way the holiday morphed into a commercial bonanza for florists, candy merchants, and greeting card hawkers, like Hallmark. (Congratulations to them on their pioneering “two mommies” card!) She wanted people to honor their mothers, and she wanted mothers to work for “peace.” Lovely sentiment, which is the sort of emotionally-driven, well-intentioned mentality exploited by tyrants, thugs and vicious, brutal dictators, then and now. That naive mindset is unfortunate in the average person, but when displayed by allegedly serious people, it is downright pathetic.
I’m sure that the leader of the Islamic terror group Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau (among other names he uses), described by CNN as “the sadistic architect of a campaign of mayhem and misery,” is terrified by the fact that his kidnapping of nearly 300 schoolgirls is trending on Twitter! What did our State Department know about this group, and what should they have known?
On the other hand, the Obama regime must be getting, shall we say, a little concerned that their lies about Benghazi are about to be exposed. They have spent the last several days, with the willing assistance of the Lame Stream Media allies, trying to persuade people that people who want the truth are all part of a Republican “Conspiracy Week,” and that the Select Committee that will investigate is nothing more than a political stunt. Predictably, with straight faces, democrats continue to state that every question about the murder of 4 Americans has been answered, and it’s time to “move on.” If that’s true, and they have nothing to hide, why the insistence on continued secrecy and stonewalling?
Word. To your Mother. As always, California is on “the cutting edge,” this time making sure to bring the words “mother” and “father” into the 21st century.
Be ahead of the curve! Tune in today for the rest of the story.
