I’m sure that you remember the story of Amanda Clayton, even if you don’t remember her name. She was the 25 year-old Michigan woman who won $1million in the lottery, but continued to collect welfare benefits. Like many lottery winners, after the big windfall, apparently things did not go well. From CBS News:
Police say Detroit-area woman Amanda Clayton, who collected welfare benefits despite winning a $735,000 lottery prize, has died of a possible drug overdose.
Clayton, 25, was found dead around 9 a.m. Saturday at a home in Ecorse, Mich., southwest of Detroit, according to police Sgt. Cornelius Herring.
Another sad story, which is not atypical of what happens to lottery winners.
