From the Boston Globe, reporting on a new Gallup poll:
Americans overwhelmingly say they want to do away with the Electoral College and instead elect the president through a tally of votes nationwide, according to a Gallup poll released today.
Is it any wonder that a person who is not an Article II “natural born citizen” was allowed to occupy the Oval Office?
The article quotes Gallup spokesperson Lydia Saad as saying “Americans show relatively little attachment to this unique invention of the country’s Founding Fathers.”
Gee, why would that happen? Could it be because for at least the last 40 years, the Left has made sure that the only thing that Americans learn about the U.S. Constitution is the Big Lies; that is, that it was written by a passel of racist, slave-holding, misogynistic white European bigots who stole this country from noble Native Americans and then slaughtered them with smallpox. As a result, even supposedly educated people don’t know the Constitutional difference between a natural born citizen and a citizen. In my experience, you may as well expect most Americans to understand and explain the Special Theory of Relativity as to appreciate the difference between a case decided based on Article II versus one based on the Fourteenth Amendment. Good luck with that. Perhaps that’s a little inside baseball. Let me put my inner lawyer back in her cage, and suggest that understanding the value of the Electoral College should be something every American child learns in middle school. Perhaps “educators” could squeeze that in sometime between bestiality and oral sex.
