Recently, the “GOPUSA Blog” posted an article on the prospects of Obama’s Legacy. I’d like to add a few points of my own.
Few remember the Jimmy Carter Presidency of 1976-1980. From my perspective, it was the worst time of my life. As a young upstart apprentice tradesman, I had to suffer the indignity of unemployment for the very first time in my life. The nationwide unemployment at that time was in the double digits, and that was the actual reported number. They didn’t cook the books to eliminate the discouraged, or pretend that someone wasn’t part of the “unemployed” if he stopped looking for work a month earlier, or had a part-time job when he wanted a full-time one. In other words, unemployment meant just that… unemployment. Since that time there has been a plethora of new formulas by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which seek to make things look better or worse than they really are, depending upon who is in the White House. I call it “massaging the numbers.” Others have a quite different word for it. But whatever you call it, the results remain the same. The U-6 Number is the most accurate barometer of the employment situation.
As long as double-digits remain, we are in for tough ecomomic times. In fact, just this week, unemployment jumped as reported by Fox Business. “The Labor Department reports new claims for unemployment benefits increased to 360,000 last week from an upwardly-revised 328,000 the week prior. Claims were expected to rise to 330,000 from an initially-reported 323,000.”
Does anyone remember now when these numbers were touted by the lamestream media as catastrophic? Now they are now met by a yawn.
Obama’s much acclaimed “Jobs Council” met only twice in the last two years! How long has it been? It has been MIA since January 17, 2012 and is now kaput.
The stock market is, in my opinion, living on a false euphoria even as the Dow caps 16,000 and our national debt has topped 16 Triollion. One only has to wonder, how hard the fall will be? It’s a nightmarish “Mad Max” scenario that even Hollywood could not possibly dream of.
If there is any consolation to be had, it is this: The scandals of these past four years are slowly catching the media’s attention, and that is only because Obama made the fatal mistake of attacking his own lapdog media. It is beginning to look as though the Obama Presidential Library will resemble his brother’s hut in Kenya.
