You Mean It Wasn’t That Scary Gun That Caused the Newtown Murderer’s Killing Spree?

Law enforcement sources say Adam Lanza was motivated by violent video games and a strong desire to kill more people than another infamous mass murderer. Sources say Lanza saw himself as being in direct competition with Anders Breivik, a Norwegian man who killed 77 people in July 2011. Breivik killed eight with a bombing in downtown Oslo. He then moved to a nearby island where hunted down and fatally shot 69 people, mostly teenagers attending a summer camp. Two officials who have been briefed on the Newtown, Conn., investigation say Lanza wanted to top Breivik’s death toll and targeted nearby Sandy Hook Elementary School because it was the “easiest target” with the “largest cluster of people.” … Evidence shows that his mind, sources say, Lanza was also likely acting out the fantasies of a video game as he killed 20 first graders and six adults at the school. For Lanza, the deaths apparently amounted to some kind of “score.” But Lanza ended his killing spree sooner than he intended. Unlike Breivik, who surrendered, Lanza killed himself as police closed in. Just before his suicide, Lanza fired some shots at police in the school’s parking lot. Officials have not publicly revealed what led them to the motive, but sources say investigators have found evidence Lanza was obsessed with Breivik. They’ve also recovered what they called a “trove” of video games from the basement of Lanza’s home. Sources say Lanza spent countless hours there alone, in a private gaming room with the windows blacked out, honing his computer shooting skills.

Rush, Don’t Panic. Your Monday Show Prep Will Continue

During the first half hour of last Sunday’s show, I mentioned this post, entitled “I am Adam Lanza’s Mother,” in which the author Liza Long describes her struggles with her mentally-ill 13 year-old son. Here’s the audio:

So then yesterday, I hear Rush Limbaugh talking about the same article, which apparently had gone viral EVERYWHERE Sunday night.

Here’s that audio:

I didn’t see the post at Gawker, mentioned by Rush, which appeared after my show had aired.

What Every Mass Shooting, Except One, Since 1950 Has in Common

John Fund has a very interesting piece over at National Review online, The Facts of About Mass Shootings. In it, he mentions a post-Sandy Hook shooting conversation he had with frequent Teri O’Brien Show guest, Professor John Lott.

Economists John Lott and William Landes conducted a groundbreaking study in 1999, and found that a common theme of mass shootings is that they occur in places where guns are banned and killers know everyone will be unarmed, such as shopping malls and schools.

I spoke with Lott after the Newtown shooting, and he confirmed that nothing has changed to alter his findings. He noted that the Aurora shooter, who killed twelve people earlier this year, had a choice of seven movie theaters that were showing the Batman movie he was obsessed with. All were within a 20-minute drive of his home. The Cinemark Theater the killer ultimately chose wasn’t the closest, but it was the only one that posted signs saying it banned concealed handguns carried by law-abiding individuals. All of the other theaters allowed the approximately 4 percent of Colorado adults who have a concealed-handgun permit to enter with their weapons.

“Disarming law-abiding citizens leaves them as sitting ducks,” Lott told me. “A couple hundred people were in the Cinemark Theater when the killer arrived. There is an extremely high probability that one or more of them would have had a legal concealed handgun with him if they had not been banned.”

Lott offers a final damning statistic: “With just one single exception, the attack on congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson in 2011, every public shooting since at least 1950 in the U.S. in which more than three people have been killed has taken place where citizens are not allowed to carry guns.” (emphasis mine)

Purely a coincidence, I’m sure, which is probably why I haven’t heard this fact before in the hundreds of hours of Lame Stream Media coverage about the Sandy Hook shootings.

Sandy Hook School Murders Tailor-made for Parasitic Left: Today on The Teri O’Brien Show

As the people of Newton, CT grieve for the victims of the Sandy Hook School murders, they must contend with the plague of pompous, parasitic pant loads, hoping to exploit this unimaginable horror to advance their own personal agendas, including later today, Barack Hussein Obama. On Friday, he addressed the nation, wiping away tears, which amazingly appeared on the outer corner of his eye, the opposite side from where the human tear duct lies. I guess this unusual anatomy is just another example of the One’s unique and awesome specialness. Or it could just be that he was faking the tears.

This event gave the Jurassic media the opportunity to fire up their somber montage machines, with their inevitable achingly-sad solo piano soundtracks, and to descend on Newtown, CT to use it as a backdrop for their silly stand ups. Any doubt that this incident was a major news event was erased when we saw political hack turned objective truth seeker George Stephanopolous not only on the air on a Saturday morning, but on the air wearing his “serious journalist” glasses. Maybe it’s just me, but I think that, once again, our media friends are enjoying this event a bit too much. To what extent does the orgy of media coverage contribute to the chance of more of these incidents?

This tragedy provides a perfect set of circumstances for the Left to advance several of its treasured agenda items. The shooter’s murdered mother was–wait for it–not only a gun enthusiast (!), but also–are you ready for this?–a home schooler! In addition, the occasion of another “troubled” young man, presents the opportunity for proponents of big government, and the always destructive, reactive “just do something” mentality to press for not only the obvious, that is, infringements on our 2nd amendment rights, but also for more government “programs” to assist the mentally-ill. No matter that this shooter’s family apparently has the resources to provide the help he obviously needed. His case is useful to the Left, as the press for more government, and, as we have often noted, they never let a crisis go to waste. The reality is that a gun is an inanimate object. Don’t we need more nut control?

What would the Founders have made of the country they helped create? Were they the cautious, measured patriots that we revere or were they radicals willing to use all means necessary, including violence, to oppose Great Britain? Les Standiford, author of Desperate Sons: Samuel Adams, Patrick Henry, John Hancock, and the Secret Bands of Radicals Who Led the Colonies to War will join us to talk about the Sons of Liberty, the secret society determined to impose change on what were the Colonies.

Never Let a Crisis Go To Waste: Anti-Freedom Left Will Exploit CT Tragedy

I’m not going to spend a lot of time addressing the very predictable and silly bleating by the freedom-hating Left in the wake of the horrible murders yesterday in Newtown, Connecticut. Once again, in the immortal words of Rahm “Tiny Dancer” Emanuel, they don’t want a crisis to go to waste, and as usual, the “solutions” they offer are anything but. Instead, they exploit tragedies to advance their big government agenda and their desire to “control the people,” to quote another democrat.

We may never know the reason for the actions of this shooter, and I am not infected with the arrogance of those who claim to know not only the reason, but simplistic answer about what to do to prevent evil actions like this from ever happening again. As desirable as that would be, that solution is beyond the ability of human beings. Our best hope of intervening is the traditional family, something that the very same people who are wringing their hands and demanding more gun control, have done their best to destroy.

Once again I will reference this legendary Wall Street Journal editorial, which was unsigned, but we now know was written by Daniel Henninger, entitled No Guardrails,” in which he blames cultural elites for tearing down the boundaries that traditional society erected to help protect those who needed help navigating the vicissitudes of life. The troubled, the dim-witted, and even the insane are best identified and helped by those closest to them, and even a government as wonderfully caring and benevolent as the one in every liberal’s wet dream is incapable of the type of intervention that a loving family can provide. Ironically, that’s just what the left wants to throw on the ash heap of history.

Barack Obama’s tearful statement about this tragedy may have been sincere. It’s not hard to believe that one could become emotional thinking about young lives snuffed out before they barely had a chance to begin. Perhaps he might feel better if he thinks of these murdered children as abortion survivors left to die alone in dirty hospital closets. He  and other liberals say “these children are our children,” but of course, they aren’t. They are their parents’ children, and just as he and his liberal institutions weren’t there to help this nutcase shooter, they won’t be there the next time. Ironically, his statement of the need for “meaningful action to prevent tragedies like this regardless of the politics” is nothing but politics, and another transparent attempt to capitalize on this horrible event to advance his anti-freedom agenda. It’s disgusting, but oh so predictable. As the Gorebot might say, a leopard doesn’t change his stripes.
