Wanted: Dead or Alive

Remember Christopher Dorner, the L.A. police officer turner alleged murderer? He had written a manifesto charging California police with all sorts of things, including lying. Now we all know the police would never lie.

Well, now comes word that some of the reward for the “arrest and conviction” has been rescinded because, wait for it… he wasn’t arrested nor convicted.

The city of Riverside is pulling its pledge of $100,000 toward the $1 million reward offered during the manhunt for rogue ex-LAPD officer Christopher Dorner.

Because the Riverside City Council resolution stipulated the money was for information leading to Dorner’s arrest and conviction, the city will withdraw its pledge because neither condition was met, Riverside city spokeswoman Cindie Perry told NBCLA.

Remember how worried the authorities were about this one man crime wave?

The police headquarters building in downtown Los Angeles was ringed by officers on foot and parked patrol cars, and snipers were in place on the roof in case the wanted ex-cop who vowed warfare against police and their families made a move there. Other police stations throughout the area had heavy visible protection as well.

[L.A. Police Chief]  Beck said Los Angeles police have launched more than 40 security details to protect law enforcement personnel and others they believe are Dorner’s targets, based on the Internet posting.

[San Bernardino Sheriff John] McMahon said 125 officers were going door to door and attempting to track the suspect, and that a SWAT team was providing added security to those in the community.

As we know now, “those in the community” means the people named in Dorner’s manifesto- the police. From the 1981 District of Columbia Court of Appeals:

By a 4-3 decision the court decided that Warren was not entitled to remedy at the bar despite the demonstrable abuse and ineptitude on the part of the police because no special relationship existed. The court stated that official police personnel and the government employing them owe no duty to victims of criminal acts and thus are not liable for a failure to provide adequate police protection unless a special relationship exists. The case was dismissed by the trial court for failure to state a claim and the case never went to trial.[3]

When the reward was reward was issued, the police were asking the citizenry for help. While the manifesto clearly named the police as the targets, the community was in danger of only stray bullets, and police gunfire.

Two women in a blue pickup, who were delivering copies of the Los Angeles Times, came under fire by Los Angeles Police Department officers on Thursday morning in what Police Chief Charlie Beck has described as a case of “mistaken identity.”

Moments later, Torrance Police Department officers responding to the gunfire slammed their cruiser into a black truck being driven by David Perdue and opened fire. Perdue’s attorney described the shooting as “unbridled police lawlessness” in an interview with The Times on Saturday.

Dorner had these guys so jumpy, they would crash into a pick-up truck into one before opening fire and  opened fire on the two women occupants of another, just to be on the safe side. Citizens be damned. They will pick up the payments for the lawsuits.

All of this could normally be chalked up to ‘mistaken identity’ even if the two women and the surfer dude were not black like Dorner, if there was an aire of truthfulness coming from the police department, but sadly, there is none.

I start to see a pattern. Dorner was never going to be “arrested and convicted”. They knew that all along. I wasn’t surprised when they burnt down that house. The taxpayers can rebuild it.

When we see stories such as this:

Alameda County supervisors have really taken to heart the adage that government should run like a business — rewarding County Administrator Susan Muranishi with the Wall Street-like wage of $423,664 a year.

For the rest of her life.

It becomes evident that the reward was never going to be paid. California is too broke to be paying rewards. They have salaries and pensions to pay.

Could Dorner have been right? Are the California police liars? Are they just there to protect themselves, their administrators, and their pensions?

“We’re from the government and we’re here to help… ourselves.”

Cheer Up, Leftists! Barry’s Single Payer is Only Months Away!

Last week after the conclusion of the latest Washington “crisis,” the “fiscal cliff” debacle, believe it or not, some of Barry Obama’s supporters were extremely unhappy with the amount of the tax increases in the deal. That left a lot of us scratching our heads, since the ratio of tax increases to spending cuts was 41:1. There are a couple of reasons that I shouldn’t have been confused. Like you, I know that (1) the appetite of the Left for other people’s money is insatiable and (2) they will always find something to complain about. Today I say, “cheer up, leftists Barry’s single payer plan only a few months away!”

On yesterday’s show, I referred to this story from the Liberal Death Star, but I didn’t have the chance to talk about it. “Despite New Health Law, Some See Sharp Rise in Premiums.” reads the headline. How can that be? Oh, it be. Check this out:

Health insurance companies across the country are seeking and winning double-digit increases in premiums for some customers, even though one of the biggest objectives of the Obama administration’s health care law was to stem the rapid rise in insurance costs for consumers.

Particularly vulnerable to the high rates are small businesses and people who do not have employer-provided insurance and must buy it on their own.

In California, Aetna is proposing rate increases of as much as 22 percent, Anthem Blue Cross 26 percent and Blue Shield of California 20 percent for some of those policy holders, according to the insurers’ filings with the state for 2013. These rate requests are all the more striking after a 39 percent rise sought by Anthem Blue Cross in 2010 helped give impetus to the law, known as the Affordable Care Act, which was passed the same year and will not be fully in effect until 2014.

In other states, like Florida and Ohio, insurers have been able to raise rates by at least 20 percent for some policy holders. The rate increases can amount to several hundred dollars a month.

The proposed increases compare with about 4 percent for families with employer-based policies.

Wha? Let me get out my shocked face. It turns out that there is a “loophole,” to use the term that liberals like to use to denigrate policies that they don’t like, in Obamacare. I guess when you have to pass bills without reading them to find out what’s in them, that will happen. The loophole is as follows, according the NY Times’ story: the power of state regulators differs state to state. In California, for example, the insurance regulators can review rate requests, but only for technical violations, not for the amount of the increase. Cue the sad trombone.

But, fear not. If, as you follow my sage advice, and read to the end of these Lame Stream Media stories, you’ll see that hope is making a comeback. This whole evil private health insurance scheme that we mistakenly thought served us so well for decades is destined to go the way of the quill pen, the 8-track tape and the Constitution, all outmoded, out dated, out of style and out of time. Why? Because

The practice of medical underwriting — being able to consider the health of a prospective policy holder before deciding whether to offer coverage and what rate to charge — will no longer be permitted after 2014 under the health care law.

And with the end of medical underwriting, bye bye private insurance. Hello single payer. How long will employers be able to continue to subsidize employee coverage when the premium must be sufficient to pay for the treatment of the sickest person in the pool, who by law can’t be charged any more than the healthiest one? Barack lied about it in 2009, but back in 2007, he told a friendly union audience that single-payer is what he wanted, and that’s the reason for this whole heinous scheme. All of the yip yap about “pre-existing conditions” was just that. For approximately 90% of the population with private insurance, there was never was issue of pre-existing conditions because they got their insurance through employer plans. That’s because of provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPPA). Specifically, as the Heritage Foundation notes here:

With respect to employer-group coverage, Congress took a reasonable and balanced approach to setting rules under HIPAA.

In particular, HIPAA rules on the application of pre-existing-condition exclusions with respect to group coverage encourage good behavior (buying health insurance before it becomes necessary) and discourage bad behavior (waiting to obtain health insurance until medical care becomes necessary). Good behavior is thus rewarded with what could be called an earned right to obtain future coverage on favorable terms. All an individual needs to do to earn such favorable treatment is to have at least one year of “creditable coverage” (defined as any public or private major-medical plan), with no gaps in coverage of more than 63 days. Furthermore, even if an individual does not have sufficient creditable coverage, employer-group coverage is still “guaranteed issue,” and any pre-existing-condition exclusion is time-limited.

This balanced approach to setting rules and incentives explains why, for the past 15 years, pre-existing-condition exclusions have not been a barrier to coverage for the vast majority of privately insured individuals who are covered by employer-group plans. It also explains why that market has been able to function with a guaranteed issue requirement, but without the need to mandate that individuals obtain coverage.

However, with respect to the individual market, Congress only applied that kind of balanced approach to those limited cases where a worker loses group coverage and obtains individual replacement coverage. It was the failure of Congress to apply a set of reasonable rules to the entire individual health insurance market that has resulted in continued inequities in that market. It also thwarts efforts to shift to a true consumer-directed health care system where individuals, not employers or the government, own their health insurance.

Specifically, under HIPAA rules a person who purchases individual market coverage, and later needs or wants to change individual coverage, can be refused the new coverage, or the new insurer can impose pre-existing-condition exclusions on the coverage or charge the individual a higher rate based on past medical history. Unlike the rules for group coverage, HIPAA does not require individual market insurers to credit applicants with prior coverage.

Thus, in the individual health insurance market, people who buy health insurance before they need it are treated the same as those who wait until they need medical care before buying insurance. Aside from being inequitable, such rules are contrary to the public policy goal of encouraging people to buy health insurance before they need to use it. This flaw in HIPAA also left an opening for supporters of more government intervention to push for a blanket prohibition on the use of pre-existing-condition exclusions, which Congress then included in the Obamacare legislation.

Rather than simply extending HIPAA’s sensible employer-group rules to individual health insurance coverage (the remaining 10 percent of the private market), in Obamacare Congress replaced HIPAA’s balanced approach with a complete ban on pre-existing-condition exclusions under any circumstances, and then attempted to limit the damage caused by that policy blunder by adding an individual mandate to buy coverage.

Did you know that? Did you know that the whole “pre-existing condition” meme, with the inevitable Lame Stream Media sob stories, featuring some poor sap tearfully describing his illness and his cruel treatment at the hands of an insurance company, was a lot of hooey? If you had employer-provided health insurance, and had been buying health insurance consistently, even if you changed jobs, you weren’t subject to any pre-existing condition denial of coverage. But, rather than simply tweak an existing law, and thereby go a long way toward addressing the ostensible problem, Barry and his merry band of Marxists imposed a horrendous, ridiculously expensive bureaucratic nightmare on this country, and thanks John Roberts, it’s here to stay. But wait, you may be saying, that change in HIPPA would only have addressed the issue of pre-existing conditions those with private insurance. In 2009, approximately 64% of the population had private insurance. Fine. What about the illegal aliens, irresponsible sperm donors who impregnate their irresponsible playmates, stinking, shopping cart pushing aggressive panhandling winos, and various other aggrieved parties who don’t have private insurance because they don’t have jobs? People like this woman, Angel “Someone’s Gotta Pay for my 15 Children” Adams. (~approximately 2:20 into the video). Now you’ve swerved into the real heart of the matter. Why is it “fair” that just because you work, you get health insurance and she and her children by God only knows who, don’t? This whole “employer provided” insurance is just a vestige of all the “Mad Men” world of racist suburbs, private automobiles, traditional “unequal” marriage, stay-at-home moms imprisoned by sexism, and all the rest of the 1950′s-style “unfair” Amerika that Barack vowed to throw on the ash heap of history when we put him in charge. Things won’t be “fair” until you and your children don’t have any better health care than Ms. Adams.

If we have to destroy this inequitable system, one that works very well for the vast majority of the people who are part of that traditional society to fix things for the Ms. Adamses of the world, so be it! Of course, Barack and Michelle, their spawn, Valerie and other members of the political royalty will have their medical needs handled outside the system that you will share with Ms. Adams.

Sort of like the difference between their vacations, and yours, if you had one.

So, once the private insurance industry is destroyed, Barack Obama will have completely remade America, and accomplished what for him are three extremely important objectives: (1) Destroying the private insurance industry (2) Continuing his never-ending project of eradicating Amerika’s “unfairness” and (3) most important of all, increasing the size of government and the power of the political class, and giving them the power of life and death over every American. Any questions?

All of these things seem so obvious to us. Why do so many of our fellow citizens not see what is right in front of their faces?

Obama Supporters Can’t Have it Both Ways on “Obama Phones”: Show Notes, 9/29/12

I just called to ask how you like that free phone I gave you.

On yesterday’s edition of the program, we exposed the truth about the so-called “Obama phone.” The Left erupted in its typical knee-jerk outrage that anyone would dare suggest that a former Alinskyite community organizer would pursue income and wealth redistribution, and rushed to claim that the free cell phone program started during the Reagan administration. One lefty website, ThinkProgress.com, even linked to another left-leaning site, FactCheck.org to prove that “fact.” Unfortunately, the linked story didn’t include any reference to Ronald Reagan. The truth is that this “Lifeline” program was fully implemented by the Telecommunications Act of 1996, signed by Bill Clinton. And nice try, my pinko pals, saying, as one of liberal readers did, that “it’s paid for by cell phone users, not the government.” If the government mandates that cell phone companies give free phones to the beneficiaries of Obama’s stash, and they put the cost on your bill, that’s effectively a tax, and everyone knows it. So, Obama supporters are correct when they say that he didn’t start the program. The mystery is why he isn’t out there saying that, and explaining to that nice lady, who sounds EXACTLY like Flip Wilson’s “Geraldine” character, that Obama didn’t give her a free phone. Please read the pieces linked below for the full story about another example of hypocrisy and dishonesty from the Left.

My advice for Mitt Romney during Wednesday night’s debate: expose Obama for what he is a liar and a thin-skinned narcissist.

We flashback to that audio to hear her mention “an FBI investigation.” How is that possible when the FBI still isn’t able to get to the crime scene because the neighborhood is too dangerous? Is it really possible that that’s true, or is it that the Obama administration wants the investigation delayed at least 5 weeks and 1 day? And what WAS she talking about?

The Truth About the “Obama Phone”: Today on the Teri O’Brien Show

All of us who thought that Flip Wilson had passed away back in 1998 were shocked to hear a gut bustingly hilarious audio clip flood the airwaves at the end of last week, featuring the return of Geraldine, this time telling us that “Romney sucks,” and waxing eloquent about her “Obama phone.” Then we saw the video and we realized it was not Geraldine, but a lucky recipient of goodies from Obama’s stash. Predictably, once the YouTube video of this woman went viral, our friends on the Left pounced on what they consider another “racist” distortion of the truth from the evil vast right-wing conspiracy. Here’s an example from one of my Facebook friends:

“Crazy, rant of the day debunked: Obama is giving free phones to poor people just like that redistributionist, socialist Ronald Reagan. Horrors! Paid for by cell phone users, not government, by the way.”

This sort of comment is why my work is never done. I think I’ve warned people more than once about trying to get accurate information from Rachel Maddow, but sometimes people don’t get the message. This guy’s defense of the One is like a lot of what is said and written by the Obama campaign; that is, often the words, while technically accurate, are EXTREMELY misleading in context. What’s the truth about these “free” phones? We’ll unpack it on today’s show.

Speaking of the baloney factory that is the Obama campaign, today’s designated mouthpiece David Plouffe almost broke my well-calibrated and highly sensitive BS detector on the Sunday shows, especially when pressed on the disgusting and incessant lies by everyone in the administration about the murder of four Americans in Libya. Not only did Barack Obama repeatedly mislead the American public about what happened, immediately after one of his deceptive statements, he jetted off to Vegas (yeah! Vegas, Baby!) for a fundraiser. As long-time democrat Pat Caddell noted recently, this disgraceful episode should be Barack Obama’s Katrina moment. Why isn’t it?

You know the answer to that last question as well as I do. Our fifth column media is in overdrive trying to help Barack Obama avoid having to defend his indefensible record. It’s going to be up to Mitt Romney to hold his feet to the fire. Many have high hopes for that happening on Wednesday’s debate. I have some advice for Mitt Romney. What say you?

We’ll also welcome Laer Pearce, author of Crazyfornia: Tales from the Tarnished State-How California is Destroying Itself and Why it Matters to America. Is California’s economic disaster a preview of coming attractions for the rest of the country?

Tune in today for the rest of the story.

Current TV’s Newest Star, Gavin Newsom [UPDATED]

You're only 19? No problem! I'm the Mayor!

Please scroll down for update.

If those three disgraced Secret Service agents who recently resigned after that unfortunate hooker thing are looking for new gigs, I suggest that they give Al Gore a call. His Current TV just announced its latest new hire, vapid empty suit/reprobate and current California Lt. Governor, Gavin Newsom. It’s easy to see why the network that recently snapped up Eliot “Client #9” Spitzer would find him a great fit. Consider these achievements over the last decade:

He was flouting the rule of law before the One made it cool.

In February 2004, in a tremendous act of political courage, as mayor of a city universally recognized as homosexual headquarters, he unilaterally decided to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. The marriages were invalidated later that year by the California Supreme Court, ruling that Newsom had overstepped his bounds, demonstrating that they don’t understand the fierce urgency of now!

And how about these stellar achievements?

In December 2006, Newsom showed up intoxicated at San Francisco General Hospital, where police officers and family members were gathered to mourn a cop who’d just been killed in the line of duty; this came a couple of months after he was photographed out drinking with a model he’d been dating who was only 19 years old. As it happened, the day before the photos of him with the model appeared, Newsom met a knockout blonde named Jennifer Siebel, an ex-girlfriend of George Clooney’s who has had small parts in more than a dozen films, including Something’s Gotta Give and In the Valley of Elah. She and Newsom were just falling in love — they’ve since become engaged — when the real bomb went off.

Her name was Ruby Rippey-Tourk. She was Newsom’s former appointments secretary, another spectacular blonde and a member of that late-night inner circle as the wife of Alex Tourk, one of Newsom’s closest friends and his point man on homelessness. She was in a rehab program for substance abuse when the clearing-emotional-minefields part led her to tell her husband she’d had sex with the mayor. Alex Tourk confronted Newsom about it and promptly resigned.

Showing up as mayor drunk to mourn a murdered police officer? Encouraging under-age drinking? Banging the wife of a close friend? What’s not to like? I guess we can see why California, whose voters clearly know a superstar when they see one, is in such terrific shape today.

Plus, like recently launched Keith “I Caught My Head in a Subway Door” Olbermann, who himself has had some, shall we say, rather interesting interactions with women, Newsom has a mental disability. His dyslexia should make things really interesting. Gavin tries to read the TelePrompTer. Hilarity ensues. Hang on, Al Sharpton. You’re getting some company in that department.

No doubt about it. This move should vault Current TV into the ratings stratosphere. Or not.

UPDATE: If you were wondering, as I was, whether Lt. Gov. Newsom was going to step down as Lt. Gov. of California when he begins his new tv career, the answer is a firm “no.”

From Andrew Malcolm at Investors.com:

Many people had thought, accurately, that the lieutenant governor job in the nation’s most populous state was a full-time position. Surprisingly, Newsom’s spokesman agreed with his boss there was no conflict with state duties and would somehow showcase the Golden state nationally. He said Newsom would do little program preparation because he knows most of his guests already.

No worries. He gets paid $130,490 a year to do basically nothing, which the very financially stable State of California can easily afford.
