Dancing on the Tea Party’s Grave: Today on The Teri O’Brien Show, 10-20-13

Is this man smiling because he has destroyed his opposition? Time will tell. It's up to us.

Is this man smiling because he has destroyed his opposition? Time will tell. It’s up to us.

It’s official. Everyone, and by “everyone” I mean all the East Coast Brain Rot afflicted elites in the Establishment GOP and the legacy media, hates Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), and everyone knows that he has destroyed the “Republican brand.” Sen. John McCain (R-Amnesty) says that Sen. Cruz and his ally, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) were on a “fool’s errand” that took attention away from the Obamacare rollout fiasco. Is he right? Isn’t it more likely that Sen. Cruz is correct when he says that if the Senate Republicans had stood united with the House GOP, and went out across the nation highlighting the ridiculous disaster of the “Affordable Care Act” website, and explaining that it was Barack Obama who refused to negotiate? Of course it is! Just how much did that Obamacare website cost? The number is staggering, especially when you consider that the technology used is not exactly state of the art. You won’t believe just how old that technology is. Let’s put it this way: The government just did the equivalent of taking $250,000 of your money to purchase a rusted out ’57 Chevy. More interesting numbers in this week’s “By the Numbers” segment.

Why would the government botch this Obamacare rollout so badly? I submit that it’s not an accident, a mistake or an example of the sort of inevitable “glitches” that all technology experiences. In fact, like Lois Lerner before her, Sec. of Health and Human Services Kathleen “There’s no bad abortion” Sibelius did exactly what she was told to do. Confused? We’ll unpack it today.

The CW (Conventional Wisdom) is that this recent effort to save Americans from the horribly destructive effects of Obamacare signals the end of the Tea Party. Certainly, Sen. Mitch “Surrender Now” McConnell must hope so. Are guys like the Liberal Death Star’s token “conservative” David “Great Pant Crease!” Brooks correct about the end of the movement that took the House in 2010? Or, is the reality that this recent battle energized opposition to the Obama regime’s lawless agenda? Did they retreat, or are they just reloading? Will they be able to mobilize to stop the amnesty that the democrats are planning to try to foist on us as soon as possible?

“On This Day” reminds us of Barack Obama’s radical associations.

Be ahead of the curve. Tune in today 4-6 pm Central, for the rest of the story.

Debt Ceiling: GOP Didn’t Make The Best Argument Because Leadership Wasn’t Really Feeling It

Some people make things happen. Some people watch things happen. Some people stand there and ask “what just happened?” For that last group, I present the following explanation. The establishment GOP went into the latest battles with Barack Obama and the democrats. on the continuing budget resolution and the increase in the debt ceiling with their usual defeatist attitude, completely buying into the party line that “Obamacare is the law of the land.” Based on past experience, everyone assumed that they would not even try to use the leverage they have to try to rescue the American people from the horrific effects of Obama’s health care scheme. Then came Sen. Ted Cruz and Sen. Mike Lee who joined with some of the GOP members of the House to say “Hey, we aren’t feeling like doing the democrat door mat thing for a while. Let’s try fighting.” No matter what East Coast Brain Rot ™ afflicted pantywaist pundits say, that was a good thing. I’m sure that they realized that they were facing long odds since they had to defeat not only the democrats and Obama, but also Sen. John McCain, Sen. Kelly Ayotte, Rep. Peter King and the rest of the gutless RINO usual suspects. It’s like that Tom Hanks line from “A League of Their Own.” The hard is what makes it good.

Some of you may be wondering if it really had to be so hard, and if the GOP had to give Obama everything he wanted. They ask why the Republicans didn’t approach this fight from the very beginning, using the clear, simple, winning message that was all on their side, the issue of Obamacare unfairness. It’s clear that the special treatment accorded under Obamacare for members of Congress and their staffs, unions and other Obama cronies, like big business is a winner with the American public. The issue of “one rule for me but not for thee” is straightforward and easy to understand. Had the GOP focused on that fairness issue from the very beginning, and made one unified argument demanding (1) the same 1-year delay in the individual mandate that Obama gave to big business, and (2) a repeal of the Office of Personnel Management’s decision, allowing members of Congress and their staffs to get subsidies to purchase their insurance from Obama’s exchanges, I think that the GOP would have won the day on those two concessions. The argument that it’s only fair for the people to get the same 1-year extension in having to purchase health insurance that Obama gave to big business would have been even more compelling as the disastrous roll out of the changes unfolded, allowing the messaging to connect the unfairness and incompetence dots. You want to penalize people for not purchasing something that’s nearly impossible to purchase in the system you had over three years to create and test? And businesses get a break for a year? And members of Congress are getting a special break on their premiums? Even an Obama supporter can understand that! So, had the GOP spoken with one voice and repeated their irresistible fairness argument over and over again, they would have gotten some decent concessions from the One. It’s not the same as repeal, but it would be a good start.

Sounds good doesn’t it? So why didn’t the GOP take this obvious path to victory? Well, as previously noted, we had people supposedly on our side who were consorting with the enemy. OK, leave the RINO caucus aside. Why didn’t Speaker Boehner and the leadership  initiate the battle by making the fairness argument and press it aggressively? Were they just being their typical lame, clueless selves? I wish that was it. They didn’t because–wait for it–the elites, including the House GOP leadership, don’t have a problem with special deals for members of Congress. From Business Insider:

Boehner railed against the so-called “exemption” for Congress, but the politics of the ploy were better than the practicality. In July, Mike Sommers, Boehner’s chief of staff, went through David Krone, Reid’s chief of staff, to try to set up a meeting with President Barack Obama to find a way to maintain the subsidies.

Business Insider obtained the email exchange (which you can see below) in which Krone requests that they come up with a different cover story than Obamacare for the meeting.

“People will know we are going down there,” Sommers wrote. “We can’t let it get out there that this is for the [Speaker] and [Leader] to ask the President to carve us out of the requirements of Obamacare. … I am even ok if it is the President hauling us down to talk about the next steps on immigration.”

Krone responded that the White House would love to say the meeting would be about immigration.

“I really don’t care what it is about — it just can’t be about what we know it is about,” Sommers wrote back.

So, while I’d like to tell you that when Speaker Boehner heard that Reid and Obama wanted special treatment for the political class, he was steam-nearly-coming-out-of-his-ears enraged, so angry that he was nearly speechless, insisting that this unfairness be remedied immediately, that’s not what happened. In fact, it was just the opposite. Quietly, and behind the scenes, he was trying to make sure that they did get that special treatment. When he realized it would be politically expedient to stand against it, he pretended to believe in that. His stooge was conspiring with Reid’s stooge and trying to cover it up. Was he really going to charge to the barricades and demand its end? We’re fighting for our country’s survival, though, and we need some of that barricade charging stuff, and fast.

It’s pretty hard to fight for principles that you don’t believe in, which is why so often the establishment Republicans end up standing there with dumb looks on their faces, looks that say “what just happened?”

How Convenient: Geithner Says We Will Reach Debt Limit on Monday

What an amazing coincidence! Just as Barack Hussein Obama is seeking to bypass the “game” he says he won’t play, otherwise known as irritation of having to concede that there are actually 3 branches of government, not just the One in his regal majesty, Tim “Turbo Tax” Geithner informs the Senate that we will reach the debt limit on Monday, not in February or March. From The Hill:

The United States will reach its $16.4 trillion borrowing limit on Dec. 31 and undertake “extraordinary measures” to avoid default, the Treasury Department informed congressional leaders in a letter on Wednesday.

The notice about the debt ceiling came packaged with a stark warning from Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, who said the policy uncertainty stemming from the “fiscal cliff” makes it impossible for him to say with certainty how much time lawmakers have left to raise the borrowing cap.

“Given the significant uncertainty that now exists with regard to unresolved tax and spending policies for 2013, it is not possible to predict the effective duration of these measures,” Geithner wrote. …

Under normal conditions, that [moving money around] would buy policymakers about two months to haggle over the debt limit before an increase would be required, Geithner said. The last time the government reached its debt limit, in May 2011, Treasury’s measures delayed the need for a debt-ceiling increase until August.

That worked in 2011, but not now? How convenient! Barack Obama doesn’t want to deal with the “fiscal cliff” separately from seeking an increase in the debt ceiling from Congress, a responsibility that they are granted by our Constitution. Screw that. He wants a blank check, and an end to having to abide by that annoying, outdated program created by a bunch of clueless, dead white European men. He has made tremendous progress in his quest to ignore it, Gangsta-style, but he’s not done yet. Getting absolute power to spend this country into oblivion is the Holy Grail for him and his merry band of Marxists. Right on cue, his Treasury secretary provides the rationale for doing what he has intended all along.

The Latest on the Debt Ceiling Deal, and the Return of ACORN: Today on the Teri O’Brien Show

With the supposed “drop dead” August 2 deadline looming, this week we’ll focus on the latest developments in Washington regarding the pending end of life on earth as we know it, sometimes known as the U.S. government’s need to ask China for an increase in its credit card limit. What do the latest reports of “dramatic progress” on a deal yesterday actually mean to you? Will any deal stop the vaunted rating agencies from downgrading our debt, and does it make any difference?

At the risk of using a distasteful figure of speech in this new age of civility, I feel to compelled to point out that Barack Obama, who has repeatedly demonstrated that he couldn’t pass Economics 101 at gunpoint, continues to vote present, hoping that if he pretends to be a bystander, no one will notice that he has increased the national debt nearly $4 trillion since he ascended to office, and that his party did not pass a budget when they had control of Congress (800+ days and counting).

Predictably, he and his union allies are using the issue of Social Security as a club against those fighting for fiscal responsibility. Initially, Obama claimed that unless he got his “balanced approach” a code phrase for increasing taxes on evil “millionaires and billionaires” who earn over $250,000 a year and use $100 bills to light their cigars as they fly around on their corporate jets, Granny might find herself starved by the Republicans before Paul Ryan gets a chance to shove her and her wheelchair off a cliff. If calls the C-SPAN are any evidence, the scare tactics are working, but are they true? Let other shows get half-baked speculation and thinly-disguised talking points from pundits and alleged “experts.” One of our special guests, today is Dr. Thomas Saving. Dr. Saving is not only a distinguished professor of economics and Director of Private Enterprise Research Center (PERC) at Texas A & M. Since he served two terms as a public trustee of the Social Security and Medicare Trust Funds, he is uniquely qualified to give us the inside story. His recent op-ed in the Wall Street Journal “Obama’s Debt-Ceiling Scare Tactics.” makes it clear that the democrats are fibbing again.

Many of us thought that this organization that, according to our second special guest Matthew Vadum, is “part political group, part crime syndicate, part terrorist organization” was gone, exposed and destroyed by James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles’ and their excellent journalism back in 2009. Not so fast. As Mr. Vadum’s amazing book Subversion, Inc.: How Obama’s ACORN Red Shirts are Still Terrorizing and Ripping Off American Taxpayers, explains in fascinating detail, not only is this horrifically harmful bunch of thugs still operating, U.S. taxpayers are still footing the bill.

Tune in to hear the rest of the story.

Time to Call His Bluff: Take the Deal

As many, including the Speaker himself, have noted, John Boehner’s deal to raise the debt ceiling is not perfect. There aren’t enough spending cuts in the here and now, and I don’t think any of us is fooled by yet another pass-the-buck commission, promising us yet again that this time, we will face the hideous reality of decades of profligate spending. Still, I support it, and I encourage you to do the same for the following reasons:

When all of this started, I don’t think that most of us believed that the Republicans would stand firm on “no new taxes.” We expected the typical linguini-spined caving and cowering in the face of the anticipated (and probably inevitable) Lame Stream Media disinformation and distortion campaign. Miracle of miracles: they didn’t!

The astounding stalwart refusal of the House Republicans to even hear of any new taxes no doubt accounts for Barack Hussein Obama’s petulant tantrum last Friday evening. He can’t believe that they didn’t fold, and now, he is reduced to near irrelevancy, once again voting present, his masquerade as the “grown up” exposed and ridiculed even by his supporters.

It forces the democrats to vote on the balanced budget amendment before the end of the year, at least in theory. I’m not entirely clear on how a piece of legislation can require a vote, and I think we are all aware of the parliamentary machinations that members of Congress to use to delay voting on legislation indefinitely.

It will enrage the Left, who are already angry at their former messiah.

It will force Obama to defend his outrageous spending, designed to “remake” America by addressing the issue of “fairness,” code for government-imposed income redistribution, during next year’s election. That is the reason that Harry Reid and the Senate democrats signed a letter yesterday, vowing to oppose the Boehner bill. That’s also reason enough to support the deal. It advances Objective One: insuring that Barack Obama joins his equally-incompetent predecessor, Jimmy Carter, as a one-term president.

The Senate Dems say it’s DOA, and Obama says he’ll veto it? Go ahead. Make our day.

So, I’m with Col. Allen West: I’ll drive the car.
