Send a Short Note Like This One to Your Congressman, and Demand Answers About Food Stamp Recruitment in Mexico

As you probably know, over the course of Barack Obama’s presidency, food stamp rolls have exploded. In fact, during Pres. Obama’s first term, food stamp growth was 75x higher than job growth. I have seen numerous representatives of the administration, and many democrat members of Congress asked about this very disturbing trend. The answer is always the same: “He (Barack Obama) inherited the worst economy since the Great Depression.” Perhaps, but is that really the reason? I ask because last week, thanks to a Freedom of Information request to the Dept. of Agriculture, we learned that our government is working with the Mexican government to promote the SNAP program to would-be illegal aliens. Link here: http://www.judicialwatch.org/press-room/press-releases/judicial-watch-uncovers-usda-records-sponsoring-u-s-food-stamp-program-for-illegal-aliens/

I find this activity by our government outrageous and unacceptable, and I want to know what Congress plans to do about it. Is there no oversight of the USDA? What justification can there be for this activity? I await your explanation.

Very truly yours, Teri O’Brien

Demand an Explanation: Why is Our Government Working with Mexico to Promote Food Stamp Program to Mexican Citizens?

Seriously? OK, enough is enough. From Judicial Watch:

Judicial Watch today released documents detailing how the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is working with the Mexican government to promote participation by illegal aliens in the U.S. food stamp program.

The promotion of the food stamp program, now known as “SNAP” (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), includes a Spanish-language flyer provided to the Mexican Embassy by the USDA with a statement advising Mexicans in the U.S. that they do not need to declare their immigration status in order to receive financial assistance. Emphasized in bold and underlined, the statement reads, “You need not divulge information regarding your immigration status in seeking this benefit for your children.”

The documents came in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request made to USDA on July 20, 2012. The FOIA request sought: “Any and all records of communication relating to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to Mexican Americans, Mexican nationals, and migrant communities, including but not limited to, communications with the Mexican government.”

The documents obtained by Judicial Watch show that USDA officials are working closely with their counterparts at the Mexican Embassy to widely broaden the SNAP program in the Mexican immigrant community, with no effort to restrict aid to, identify, or apprehend illegal immigrants who may be on the food stamp rolls. In an email to Borjon Lopez-Coterilla and Jose Vincente of the Mexican Embassy, dated January 26, 2012, Yibo Wood of the USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) sympathized with the plight of illegal aliens applying for food stamps, saying, “FNS understands that mixed status households may be particularly vulnerable. Many of these households contain a non-citizen parent and a citizen child.”

There is a long history of the Obama administration working to increase the food stamp rolls, not only with people legally in the U.S., but by importing more dependents. More from the Judicial Watch article:

March 30, 2012 – The USDA seeks approval of the Mexican Embassy in drafting a letter addressed to consulates throughout the United States designed to encourage Mexican embassy staffers to enroll in a webinar learn how to promote increased enrollment among “the needy families that the consulates serve.”
August 1, 2011 – The USDA FNS initiates contact with the Mexican Embassy in New York to implement programs already underway in DC and Philadelphia for maximizing participation among Mexican citizens. The Mexican Embassy responds that the Consul General is eager to strengthen his ties to the USDA, with specific interest in promoting the food stamp program.
February 25, 2011 – The USDA and the Mexican Consulate exchange ideas about getting the First Ladies of Mexico and United States to visit a school for purposes of creating a photo opportunity that would promote free school lunches for low-income students in a predominantly Hispanic school. Though a notation in the margin of the email claims that the photo op never took place, UPI reported that it actually did.
March 3, 2010 – A flyer advertises a webinar to teach Hispanic-focused nonprofits how to get reimbursed by the USDA for serving free lunch over the summer. The course, funded by American taxpayers, is advertised as being “free for all participants.”
February 9 , 2010 – USDA informs the Mexican Embassy that, based on an agreement reached between the State Department and the Immigration & Naturalization Service (now ICE), the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) food voucher program does not violate immigration laws prohibiting immigrants from becoming a “public charge.”

The reason that Obama and his merry band of Alinskyites have been so successful at exploding the food stamp rolls is because the makers are passive as the takers scream “more! more! more!” The time has come for that to end. I plan to contact my Congressman and my senators to demand an answer for why this outrage continues. If you give a rat’s rear end about the future of this country, and what we are leaving to future generations, you should do the same. Don’t know the contact information? It’s here for members of the House, and here for both the House and Senate.

No Easter Egg Roll, but Food Stamps for Immigrants, and Free Phones for Drug Dealers?

Earlier today, the White House floated its latest phony crisis, the possible cancellation of the White House Easter egg roll. From Politico:

The next casualty of sequestration could be the Easter Bunny – at least according to a White House e-mail that recently landed in Capitol Hill inboxes.

The White House warned Congress that budget uncertainties could nix the annual Easter Egg Roll for kids, which is planned for April 1.

“[B]y using these tickets, guests are acknowledging that this event is subject to cancellation due to funding uncertainty surrounding the Executive Office of the President and other federal agencies,” the White House cautioned, according to two Capitol Hill sources who provided the language. “If cancelled, the event will not be rescheduled.”

Really? No money for the Easter egg roll? That’s a shame, and also pretty ridiculous since the Easter egg roll is funded mostly by private money, but not nearly as bad as the threat to cancel meat inspections. Times must really be tough over the FDA, or maybe not …From Fox News:

Salmonella outbreaks. E. coli outbreaks. Millions of dollars in economic losses.

These are among the scenarios the Obama administration warned about last month as it claimed the sequester would force the U.S. Department of Agriculture to furlough meat inspectors.

But while the administration prepares to take that step, it continues to pursue a “partnership” with the Mexican government to “raise awareness” about food stamps among immigrants from that country. When a top Senate Republican proposed cutting off funds for that program last week — in the form of an amendment to a budget resolution — Democrats on the Budget Committee shot it down.

The Fox News piece details the efforts by Sen. Jeff Sessions to get to the bottom of this push to extend food stamp benefits to immigrants, which began during George W. Bush’s administration. (More about Sen. Sessions great work on this issue here.)Now we have 1.23 million immigrants on food stamps! And, at least in Illinois, you don’t even have to be a legal immigrant to get them. From Illinois Legal Aid:

Some programs in Illinois are available without checking on immigration status, including:

  • The Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants & Children (WIC)

  • Medical care for children under the All Kids program

  • Kindergarten through 12th grade public education, and school lunch and breakfast programs

  • Head Start

I guess that helps Agriculture Sec. Vilsack meet his goal of getting at least 75% of eligible people on food stamps.

Meanwhile, as we noted last month, many of the free cellphones provided by the Lifeline program may have been obtained fraudulently, and some of the downtrodden who are taking advantage of this essential government program, have more than one phone. Check out this local news report from Baltimore detailing the success drug dealers have getting their hands on one of these taxpayer-subsidized phones.

Now back to work, Serf. You’ve got a lot of people to support.

A Tale of Two Cities Highlights Two Visions of America, and GOP’s Failure

The Washington Post had an interesting article last Sunday about Woonsocket, Rhode Island. One third of the people in this town are on what used to be called, in a less sensitive time, food stamps, but which are now called SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). The name changed and so did the stigma involved in presenting food coupons. Now, government dependents just swipe a card that looks just like your ATM card, Peasant. Recipients in Woonsocket call the first of the month “Check Day,” and they don’t mean paychecks.

At precisely one second after midnight, on March 1, Woonsocket would experience its monthly financial windfall — nearly $2 million from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps. Federal money would be electronically transferred to the broke residents of a nearly bankrupt town, where it would flow first into grocery stores and then on to food companies, employees and banks, beginning the monthly cycle that has helped Woonsocket survive.

Three years into an economic recovery, this is the lasting scar of collapse: a federal program that began as a last resort for a few million hungry people has grown into an economic lifeline for entire towns. Spending on SNAP has doubled in the past four years and tripled in the past decade, surpassing $78 billion last year. A record 47 million Americans receive the benefit — including 13,752 in Woonsocket, one-third of the town’s population, where the first of each month now reveals twin shortcomings of the U.S. economy:

So many people are forced to rely on government support.

The government is forced to support so many people.

So many people indeed. People like Rebecka and Jourie Ortiz.

For the past three years, the Ortizes’ lives had unfolded in a series of exhausting, fractional decisions. Was it better to eat the string cheese now or to save it? To buy milk for $3.80 nearby or for $3.10 across town? Was it better to pay down the $600 they owed the landlord, or the $110 they owed for their cellphones, or the $75 they owed the tattoo parlor, or the $840 they owed the electric company?

Wait…tattoo parlor? What’s wrong with this picture?

The Chicago Tribune has an interesting article about the franking boom in North Dakota, which presents a very different vision of America’s future.

He dropped out of north suburban Richmond-Burton Community High School, and a few years later Andy Turco found himself staining decks in the summer, plowing snow in the winter and going without work for a month or two in between.

Nearly homeless, he saw himself on a dead-end path.

Then he talked to a buddy working here (Williston, ND), in a barren corner of North Dakota, where an ugly-sounding word — fracking — has driven oil from the ground and pushed unemployment down to 0.7 percent. That’s right: seven-tenths of one percent.

Turco sold his car, hopped in a van and drove west.

Today, he’s earning nearly six figures working about 90 hours a week on a drilling rig, one of many Chicago-area transplants who have joined thousands in a remote region experiencing an oil boom while much of the country tries to shake off a recession hangover.

“It is the best thing I ever did; no doubt about it,” said Turco, 24, who arrived in Williston in October 2011. “I’m finally living an adult lifestyle, instead of a teenage dropout lifestyle.”

There you have it. Two different approaches to life in America, people living hand to mouth, dependent on the federal government v. the freedom and dignity that come from growing up, standing on your own two feet and supporting yourself like the independent souls God intended us to be.

Reading the WaPo story about Woonsocket will depress you, of course, but even worse, if you are anything like me it will make you want to beat your head against the wall to drive out thoughts of what might have been had the GOP not been so lame and ineffective last year at completing a very important task; that is, ridding the Obama infestation from the White House and all the various regulatory agencies he controls. He and his merry band of Marxists are doing everything they can to create the Woonsocket future for America. Was it really so hard to explain that to the country?

Watching Reince Preibus and his fellow sufferers of ECBR (East Coast Brain Rot) discuss their ‘rebranding,” is enough to make me lose my lunch, Kids. I’ve got news for you, Reince, Karl, Steve, Matt, and all the other inside-the-Beltway geniuses who, speaking of paychecks, collect big ones, win or lose. If you need a focus group to tell you what you believe, you really should just hang it up and turn the important job of keeping our country from turning into a socialist paradise to people who know what they believe and who aren’t afraid to say it.

What say you? Are you, like me, still heartsick over the failure of the GOP to nominate a person who could articulate conservative principles that have universal appeal? Please comment below.

Do You Suppose That This Guy is an Obama Voter?

Is it just me, or does this guy look like the epitome of the Obama voter?

From The Smoking Gun:

Meet Corey Curtis.

The Wisconsin man, who has fathered nine children with six women, was ordered yesterday to cease procreating until he can support his numerous offspring.

At Curtis’s sentencing yesterday for bail jumping and failure to pay child support, Circuit Court Judge Tim Boyle told the 44-year-old Racine man that his frequent breeding was to be curbed as a condition of his three-year probation term.

According to the article, he owes about $90,000 in back child support.

I guess Sandra Fluke was right. We do need to get those contraceptives spread around STAT!

Other questions that occur to me: how many of his baby mommas are on food stamps and receive other government assistance? Do you suppose that they have cars, cell phones and flat screen tvs? Does he? Discuss among yourselves.

The Truth About What Obama “Inherited:” Prof. John Lott, Today on the Teri O’Brien Show

As our economy continues to stagnate despite record levels of debt, and the Obama administration stubbornly pursues policies that suffocate economic growth, he and his surrogates have ramped up their rhetoric, whining that the One cannot be blamed for his failures. “It’s not his fault! It’s what he inherited!” they wail. Our guest Professor John Lott has written a new book with Grover Norquist that demolishes these lame attempts to deflect responsibility for the consequences of Barack Obama’s ideologically-driven policies. He’ll join us to discuss Debacle: Obama’s War on Jobs and Growth and What We Can Do Now to Regain Our Future.

The GOP’s “War on Women” continues. How else can anyone explain their opposition to the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act? “How can anyone be against violence against women?” the average distracted citizen no doubt thinks. Except this law isn’t about preventing violence against women. It’s about doing violence to not only our Constitution, but to securing our borders. How can that be? Listen and find out.

Remember that great audio from Detroit, featuring some Obama voters looking for free stuff from “Obama’s stash?” We’ll hear more unashamed freeloaders tell you why they, and their “baby mommas,” deserve to live on your dime.

Will Mitt land a knockout punch in Illinois on Tuesday? Can he beat Barack Obama? We’ll ask Eric Kohn of the Chicago Tea Party.

Join us Sunday for the rest of the story.
