Truth is History

Mr. Chakra
Crazed Sex Poodle

It is said that the victor gets to write history. But what if their history is all lies?

Last night I got wind of the sale of Current TV to al Jezeera. That alone should create a bit of consternation but it just keeps getting better and better- or worse and worse, depending on your point of view.

Al Jazeera on Wednesday announced a deal to take over Current TV, the low-rated cable channel that was founded by Al Gore, a former vice president, and his business partners seven years ago.

Al Jazeera did not disclose the purchase price, but people with direct knowledge of the deal pegged it at around $500 million, indicating a $100 million payout for Mr. Gore, who owned 20 percent of Current. Mr. Gore and his partners were eager to complete the deal by Dec. 31, lest it be subject to higher tax rates that took effect on Jan. 1, according to several people who insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

Al Gore, wants to avoid taxation like one of Mitt Romney’s 1%. Who can blame him for that? I mean it’s not like he is releasing his chakra into the atmosphere like a  crazed sex poodle, creating GlowBull Wormening.

But this morning there was this:

“Before Al-Jazeera bought Current TV, TheBlaze looked into buying it but we were rejected by progressive owners.”

“Glenn Beck’s The Blaze approached Current about buying the channel last year, but was told that ‘the legacy of who the network goes to is important to us and we are sensitive to networks not aligned with our point of view,‘ according to a person familiar with the negotiations.”

I don’t know if I would call that a tacit admission- it’s more like a public pronouncement that anyone on the right ‘need not apply’.  Does this mean al Jezeera? is aligned with AlGore’s point of view?

In the aftermath of Saddam’s Iraq, CNN’s  Eason Jordan admitted to withholding the truth:

Knowing the personal stories I knew about the brutality of the regime, I had three options: 1. Never repeat such horror stories. 2. Tell the stories sooner and, as a result, see innocent people killed. 3. Tell the stories after the downfall of the Saddam Hussein regime. I chose option three and could never imagine doing anything else.

Withholding the truth by news organizations is nothing new. The Chicago Tribune refused twice my request to confirm that the U.S. Attorney Fitzgerald statement thanking them for holding the story for weeks meant they knew of the Blagojevich wiretaps before the ’08 election.

But, now, instead of a Olbermann, or a Client Number 9 withholding the truth- their ‘minders’ will just buy the whole channel and make up the truth. It will be just like Air America, only different.

This is all reminiscent of the Dubai Ports deal that was torpedoed by Chuckie Schumer. Don’t expect him to object to this deal tho.

Algore got out at the right time, it appears, as a cable provider has moved to eliminate the ‘bundle’.

Intel is planning to deliver cable content to any device with an Internet connection. And instead of having to pay $80 a month for two hundred channels you don’t want, you’ll be able to subscribe to specific channels of your choosing.

And you thought Current TV‘s ratings couldn’t go any lower.

Just Say No to Dynasties and DREAMs. Today on the Teri O’Brien Show

Democrats, both the elected variety and the ones who have never faced the voters, sometimes also called “journalists,”  love dynasties, but the week that was brought many reminders of why it is wise to be wary of them. Of course, it’s no surprise that those enamored of identity politics, the government-sanctioned racism known as “affirmative action,” and crony capitalism would be all for hereditary entitlement, but you’d think that the Kennedy example would be enough to cure everyone else. Yet we still see the offspring of political and media figures in positions they could only dream of occupying had they picked the wrong parents. Whether it’s Luke Russert and Peter Doocey cruising into on-air cable gigs before the ink on their diplomas is dry, or the vacuous twenty-something daughters of two prominent members of Congress suddenly presented to the public as brilliant political analysts, in some cases, family connections appear to have more to do with success than merit.

We’ll unpack the latest controversy involving dueling publicity seekers, the mentally-vacant Meghan McCain and self-described rodeo clown/ex DJ turned supposed intellectual Glenn Beck. Did Beck go too far with his morning zoo like antics, including false vomiting at the mention of a “naked” Miss McCain? What did her dad Sen. John McCain have to say about Beck’s bit? We’ll hear his response, which suggests that even though he opposes torture for suspected terrorists, he might not have a problem using it on talk show hosts.

World-class ignoramus Alicia Menendez, spawn of Rep. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), put her stunning cluelessness on display as she attempted to defend Michelle Obama’s disgusting choice of Common, a rapper who writes lyrics praising cop killers, as appropriate entertainment for an event at the White House. Let’s compare and contrast: Laura Bush tries to celebrate the works of Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman, but has to cancel the event when anti-war/anti-American defense wackos throw a hissy fit. Mouchelle stages an homage to an “artist” who sticks up for not one, but two, murderers convicted of killing cops, during National Law Enforcement Memorial Week, no less. Those Obamas are all class! No doubt those slain officers also “acted stupidly,” right Barack? I’m sure that the Reverend Wright is very proud.

If some children benefit by being born into certain families, some are not so lucky. Our guest, Illinois Minuteman project member, anti-illegal immigration activist and former candidate for Congress Rosanna Pulido will weigh in on the proposed Illinois DREAM Act, which will allow the children of illegals to benefit from a state-sponsored college fund program. What does she think of President Obama, in full Alinsky mode, petulantly mocking those who dare to advocate protecting our borders?

Dynasty may be playing a role in the 2012 presidential election as well. The Wall Street Journal’s brutal critique of “compromised and not credible” Mitt Romney, which even suggested he should replace Joe “Three Letter Word Jobs” Biden as Barack Obama’s running mate made it clear that the GOP establishment is throwing its weight behind Indiana governor/Bush proxy Mitch Daniels. Is this support a cynical ploy to run a sure loser to pave the way for a third president Bush, Jeb, in 2016? With both Ruth Marcus and Chris Cilliza of the Washington Post joining the “run Mitch run” chorus, even while admitting they’d never consider voting for him, does that idea really seem like a stretch? What role will Mr. Daniels bizarre marital situation play in his decision, or in his election chances should he choose to run? Should it matter? What weight should voters give to a politician’s family life? And, on a personal level, how difficult and weird would it be to remarry your ex? Would you do it?

Speaking of the Kennedys, which I did earlier, and which you can’t avoid thinking about when the subject of political marriages comes up, why did Maria Shriver separate from Arnold? It can’t possibly have anything to do with his alleged infidelity. We’ve all heard those whispers, and who can forget that embarrassing groping scandal from a few years ago, but she’s a Kennedy, for heaven’s sake! Don’t they consider cheating husbands sort of like having to put the toilet seat down, that is, just another expected challenge of married life?

Plus Newt is in. Huck is out. What say you?
