Obama’s Triple Crown of Scandals, Plus Gun Control Helped Kill Her Husband-Today on The Teri O’Brien Show, 5-19-13

There will be no Triple Crown winner, but we do have a troika of Obama scandals, all of which were in the news this week. This morning on CNN, a gleeful Jessica “Barack Just Smiled at Me!” Yellin, celebrated their latest poll, which shows that these messy questions about unethical, or even illegal, behavior by members of his administration has not diminished the endless love the American people have for the Dear Leader. She’d fit right in in North Korea. Some, including the members of the House Ways and Means Committee, who held a hearing last week about the IRS’ targeting of Tea Party and conservative groups, are less enamored. Former Acting IRS Commissioner Steven Miller, who recently decided to move his previously scheduled exit to his cushy retirement up by a couple of weeks, responded to requests to know who initiated this policy with shoulder-shrugging, bored evasiveness. His demeanor said “Whatever. I don’t really care what happened. Let’s get this over with.” He couldn’t say. He didn’t know. He didn’t remember. Cue The Carpenters. This has only just begun. What do we know after this hearing? Some Republicans are opening talking “impeachment,” but is that really helpful? Is “scandal” really an agenda, especially when we learned last week that the House is close to a deal on “comprehensive immigration reform?” Short answer: no.

In response to the revelations about the 12 revisions of the Benghazi talking points, the White House decided to play along and pretend that they really are “the most transparent administration in history.” What was in these emails, and more, important, what wasn’t?

This week’s designated White House mouthpiece, the inarticulate Dan Pfeiffer, appearing as if he’s making a hostage tape, recites his memorized lies about both Benghazi and the IRS scandals. It’s no surprising that he would embarrass him yet again. Remember one of his greatest hits, involving that bust of Winston Churchill?

Plus, a very special 2nd Amendment Update, featuring Nicole Goeser, whose life changed forever on April 2, 2009, when her husband was murdered right before her and dozens of other people at a Nashville bar. How did gun control laws enable this brutal crime? How did it stop Nicole from possibly saving her husband’s life?

Tune in today for the rest of the story.

Did Boston Bombers Blow Up Obama’s 2nd Term Agenda? Today on The Teri O’Brien Show

As Obamacare continues to unravel, with one of its primary authors Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT), who has apparently developed a stunning case of amnesia, predicting that it will be a “train wreck,” Barack Obama’s two new hobby horses, gun control and “comprehensive immigration reform” (read amnesty for millions of undocumented democrats) are suddenly less attractive after the terrorist attacks by the Tsarnaev brothers, two ethnic Chechnyan jihadists. Their spree of murder and mayhem has inspired many to ask “why exactly were these guys in the country? What exactly did they contribute?” Was it just to prove the truth of the adage “No good deed goes unpunished?” After escaping their war-torn homeland, they got all the benefits of living America, including good educations and the opportunity to live in freedom. They repaid us by murdering four innocent people, and maiming hundreds of others. Now we must endure the insufferable, and way too predictable, charade of hearing the Lame Stream Media newsreaders and other liberals wring their hands, searching for a “motive.” Perhaps you could look here, and check out Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s YouTube channel and Amazon wish list. Are these media bed wetters and other simpering saps kidding? Stay tuned for the equally predictable turning of these two mopes into victims, poor “children” who came from a land that knows nothing but war and misery. I’m sure that Lynne Stewart is sad that she can’t defend them. As for Obama’s agenda, it’s not difficult to imagine that as they cowered in their homes fearing for their lives, even the residents of liberal Boston might suddenly have less enthusiasm for disarming themselves.

There are interesting new details emerging about the order brother. We’ll share them on today’s show.

Still there are many questions remaining. Did the Tsarnaev’s dad play a larger role in this episode? Did he pull the trigger on a sleeper cell after returning to Russia? Are there more bombings to come in the next few days or weeks? Would that be a huge surprise? Who financed older brother Tamerlan’s trip to Russia and Chechnya, and where did he go? Why, after he was questioned by the FBI in 2011, was he allowed to fly under the radar, posting jihadist videos on his YouTube channel and otherwise throwing up more red flags than May Day in Havana? Did someone drop the ball? If so, who? Should Dzhokhar be treated as an enemy combatant? Are you distressed that he was not given Miranda warnings? What say you?

As always, this latest horrific episode inspired the usual suspects to display their colossal stupidity and disconnection from reality. We’ll hear the evidence, and also a liberal on liberal smack down from a surprising source, who throws the BS flag when a guest on his show states that claiming equivalency between Christianity and Islam is “liberal BS.”

And speaking of the murder of innocents, the prosecution rested in the trial of Philadelphia abortionist, Kermit Gosnell.

Tune in today for the rest of the story.

New Obama Gun Control Vote Today

Even though Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) knows he probably doesn’t have 60 votes, he’s bringing this foolishness to the floor. From The Hill:

Even though he doesn’t have the votes, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) will move ahead on legislation Wednesday to expand background checks for gun sales.

Democrats are confident they will have a potent political issue if Republicans block the bipartisan measure, noting high public support in a variety of polls.

But it is highly unlikely that there are 60 votes for the upper chamber to adopt the agreement forged by Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) to expand background checks.

“We don’t know if we have 60 votes, but we don’t know that we don’t have 60,” a Democratic aide said. “It will be very close.”

Reid, however, has counted enough undecided senators to give him a shot, albeit one with long odds, at just clearing the 60-vote threshold.

Please contact your senators (link here to phone numbers and email addresses) and ask them why they would even consider supporting legislation that would have done nothing to prevent what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School last December. Isn’t that horrible crime the ostensible reason for putting more burdens on the God-given rights of law-abiding citizens? Isn’t that why we have had to endure the hideous spectacle of the parents of murdered children being flown to Washington, D.C. on Air Force One and being escorted by democrat political operatives to Congressional offices to lobby for these laws? Even the proponents of the latest round of gun control proposals admit that what they are demanding would have made no difference in Newtown. So why are we being asked to pass them in the name of Newtown? We all know the answer. The Left is all about incrementalism. The ultimate objective is to disarm the people so that they can be controlled. Any crisis, crime or other incident that they can use to further that objective is what they want, no matter how small the step is. Baby steps in the right direction down the road to serfdom will do just fine.

Even The WaPo Calls Out Obama on His Phony “40%” Statistic on Gun Sales

On last Sunday’s show, I chastised Capt. Mark Kelly, husband of former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, for repeating the dishonest, albeit frequently cited, statistic that “40% of gun sales don’t involve a background check.” Our frequent guest Professor John Lott called that out in a piece in National Review last January, but that hasn’t stopped those seeking more pointless gun control laws from repeating it ad nauseum. The One himself used it last week in a speech. Like so much of what issues forth from the mouth of our TelePrompTer-dependent chief executive, it’s a lie. From Fox News:

The oft-cited figure, it turns out, was pulled from a 1997 study done by the National Institute of Justice. In the study, researchers estimated about 40 percent of all firearm sales took place through people other than licensed gun dealers. The conclusion was based on data from a 1994 survey of 2,568 households. Of those, only 251 people answered the question about where they got their guns.

PolitiFact tracked down the co-author of the study, Duke University professor Philip Cook, and asked him if he thought the 40 percent estimate is accurate.

“The answer is I have no idea,” Cook reportedly told PolitiFact. “This survey was done almost 20 years ago.”

This story points out the Washington Post’s “Fact Checker” gave Obama 3 Pinochios for this claim. It’s worth reading the whole piece. Here’s a little bit from it.

This study was based on data collected from a survey in 1994, the same year that the Brady Act requirements for background checks came into effect. In fact, the questions concerned purchases in 1993 and 1994, and the Brady Act went into effect in early 1994 — meaning that some, if not many, of the guns were bought in a pre-Brady environment.

Digging deeper, we found that the survey sample was just 251 people. (The survey was done by telephone, using a random-digit-dial method, with a response rate of 50 percent.) With this sample size, the 95 percent confidence interval will be plus or minus six percentage points.

Moreover, when asked whether the respondent bought from a licensed firearms dealer, the possible answers included “probably was/think so” and “probably not,” leaving open the possibility the purchaser was mistaken. (The “probably not” answers were counted as “no.”)

When all of the “yes” and “probably was” answers were added together, that left 35.7 percent of respondents indicating they did not receive the gun from a licensed firearms dealer. Rounding up gets you to 40 percent, although as we noted before, the survey sample is so small it could also be rounded down to 30 percent.

As we brace ourselves for another round of Obama’s “Big Lie” Road show, which today will travel to Colorado, let’s recap what we’ve seen so far. The “never let a crisis go to waste” playbook on prominent display, as B. Hussein Obama takes advantage of the murder of children to once again trample of the U.S. Constitution, and use disingenuous “studies” to deceive people into going along.

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again because there is nothing more true in this life. The Left lies.

SHADES OF NAZI GERMANY ?

New York State Sets Up Gun Snitch Hotline Line With $500 Award. From visiontoamerica.com:

New York State is now offering $500 to people who snitch on gun owners.

The Troy Record also has news on the tip line on their Facebook page – It is real. There is actually someone there to take your tips… So that state officials can come take your guns.

NY State has established a toll-free tip line – 1-855-GUNSNYS (1-855- 486-7697) to encourage residents to report illegal firearm possession. The tip line also allows for information to be submitted via text – individuals can text GUNTIP and their message to CRIMES (274637). The New York State Police staff the tip line 24 hours a day. Upon receiving a call, troopers will solicit as much information as possible regarding a firearm tip then contact the appropriate police agency with the lead to initiate an investigation. If the information leads to an arrest for the illegal possession of a firearm, the “tipster” will be awarded $500.

In the beginning of Adolf Hitler’s Germany, there was a similar program. Violators were are arrested during the night and simply disappeared. (Remember that DHS can now “detain” you indefinitely without trial). The “List” was eventually expanded from just Gun Owners to include labor union leaders, lawyers, judges, academics, politicians, religious leaders, and of course, jews.

Are we seeing the “end of America” as we know it? Are we about to relive one of the darkest chapters of world history? PRAY.

Will The Tiny Dancer’s War on the 2nd Amendment Backfire?

As you well know, the Left has been feasting on the rotting corpse of Karl Marx for over 100 years. In that entire time, they haven’t had a single original thought. Can’t they see that their ideas NEVER EVER work? That they have NEVER worked, which strongly suggests that they NEVER will work? Seriously, it’s ridiculous. Yet, liberals insist on talking down to the rest of us, without realizing how painfully obvious it is that they are dimwits who never learn from their mistakes.

One recent example involves their latest jihad against the Second Amendment. One of those in the vanguard, is Chicago Mayor and former Obama Chief of Staff, appropriately since he is the guy who reminded his lefty friends to “never let a crisis go to waste. What I mean by that is it’s an opportunity to do things you couldn’t do before.” As in, exploit every tragedy and strike while emotions run high before the public has an opportunity to engage their brains and realize that what is being proposed would be a disaster. From Bloomberg/Business Week:

As Bloomberg News reported on Jan. 14, Rahm Emanuel, the mayor of Chicago, has appointed himself the field general of a nascent financial war on the firearm industry. Elected officials and pension system executives in New York, California, and Massachusetts are reviewing their gun investments or actively removing firearm companies from their portfolios. ”We cannot support or invest in companies that profit from the proliferation of assault weapons and the violence these guns bring to our communities,” Emanuel said. On Jan. 24, Emanuel took an even more aggressive step, as reported by the New York Times:

Fresh from persuading a $5 billion pension fund in Chicago to divest from companies that make firearms, the city’s mayor, Rahm Emanuel, on Thursday urged the chief executives of two major banks to stop financing companies “that profit from gun violence.” Mr. Emanuel sent letters to TD Bank (TD), which provides a $60 million credit line to Smith & Wesson (SWHC), and to Bank of America (BAC), which provides a $25 million line to Sturm, Ruger & Company (RGR), asking the C.E.O.s to push the companies to “find common ground with the vast majority of Americans who support a military weapons and ammunition ban.

The writer, Paul Barrett, points out that back in the 1990′s, the gun grabbers were hoping to use the Tobacco litigation as a model to sue the gun industry out of existence. Barack Obama was an enthusiastic proponent of this strategy. Unfortunately for them, and fortunately for freedom, these lawsuits were non-starters because (1) judges were unwilling to hold manufacturers of a legal product responsible for its misuse by criminals and wackos and (2) this litigious mischief inspired the NRA and other 2nd amendment right proponents to pass laws shielding gun manufacturers from liability. So

The relevant lesson from the 1990s’ municipal gun litigation is that by attacking the firearm industry as a whole—and looking away from the criminals who pull triggers—politicians provided the NRA and the gun industry with a cause to rally their loyalists. Rather than split the industry away from the gun lobby, as they aimed to do, the proponents of the litigation bound the two closer together. Indeed, one major company that tried to settle the litigation through compromise, Smith & Wesson, was punished furiously by consumer boycotts and nearly driven out of business. S&W’s troubles did nothing to reduce the prevalence of firearms in private hands. Its struggles became a boon to Smith & Wesson’s main competitor, Glock, which saw its sales increase. (I discuss this episode in detail in my book, Glock: The Rise of America’s Gun.)

Today, if investor activism has some marginal effect on the stock price of the two publicly traded U.S. gun manufacturers, Smith & Wesson and Sturm Ruger, that will come only as good news for Glock, Beretta, and other privately held rivals. Yes, Cerberus says it’s going to back out of its Freedom Group roll up—a planned initial public offering that didn’t come about for reasons having nothing to do with Newtown. But when the constituent parts of that ungainly conglomerate are sold off, it’s far from obvious that the break-up will hurt sales of Bushmaster rifles. In the short run, the Bushmaster and similar weapons are selling out at retail stores across the country.

Keep it up, loudmouth leftists. The more you pop off, the more energized we become.

Seriously? Mark “Ban Those Evil Assault Weapons” Kelly Buys AR-15

Here We Go Again. More liberal hypocrisy on display. From Breitbart:

Mark E. Kelly, gun-control proponent and husband to former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, recently purchased an AR-15 (an “assault weapon,” he called it)—which he now says he intended as an illustration of the need for more stringent gun laws.

Kelly reportedly bought the AR-15 and a 1911-style semi-automatic pistol at a gun store in Tucson, Arizona.

Once he was busted, he apparently declared on Facebook that he’s planning to give the AR-15 to the cops. Oh, OK, we understand. You were just conducting your own little private investigative to report on how easy it is to buy those scary “assault weapons” to further the cause.

The hypocrisy of these gun grabbers has no limit!

More Whacky Letters to the Editor

In a previous installment of “Whacky letters to the Editor”, we noted this letter that Rush referred to some two weeks later. Today’s installment comes from Wyoming.

Dear Representative,
I hope you are taking care of yourself during this busy session. I know it is a challenging, compressed time.
I am writing to express my grave concern about House Bill 105. Ample evidence has shown that schools and guns do not mix, and in particular, guns in the hands of amateurs/non-professionals is extremely dangerous, especially in any highly-charged situation. to expose our children to greater risk in their schools by encouraging more guns on campuses is something that we cannot allow.
My husband and I moved to Wyoming not too long ago. We believed it was a good place to raise children. With the recent and reactive expansion of gun laws and the profoundly serious dangers of fracking, we find we are seriously reconsidering our decision, which is wrenching to all of us. However, the safety of our family must come first. We are waiting to see what the legislature does this session. I know of other new-to-Wyoming families in similar contemplation. Your choices matter. It would be sad to see an exodus of educated, childrearing age adults from Wyoming as a result of poor lawmaking.
sincerely,
Rev. Audette Fulbright
Now before you get all indignant, you gotta see the Representative’s response:
Rev. Fulbright,
I’ll be blunt. If you don’t like the political atmosphere of Wyoming, then by all means, leave. We, who have been here a very long time (I am proudly 4th generation) are quite proud of our independent heritage. I don’t expect a “mass exodus” from our state just because we’re standing up for our rights. As to your comments on fracking, I would point out that you’re basing your statement on “dangers” that have not been scientifically founded or proved as of yet.
It offends me to no end when liberal out-of-staters such as yourself move into Wyoming, trying to get away from where they came from, and then pompously demand that Wyoming conform to their way of thinking. We are, and will continue to be, a state which stands a head above the rest in terms of economic security. Our ability to do that is, in large part, to our “live and let live” mentality when it comes to allowing economic development, and limiting government oversight. So, to conclude, if you’re so worried about what our legislature is working on, then go back home.
Sincerely,
Hans Hunt
Representative Hans Hunt
Representative Hunt really needs to contact the Center for Disease Control before this becomes an epidemic.

Monday Musings

If Barack Obama loves “infrastructure” so much, why has he stopped the Keystone XL Pipeline for over 4 years? High-paying jobs? Economic growth? U.S. energy independence? I guess writing that list I can see why Obama’s against it.

How will it be possible to enforce those infinitely reasonable “universal background checks” without gun registration? Hasn’t history shown that registration is a prelude to confiscation? (Answer: yes, and the democrats, including Obama, have admitted it. See this post for more. Warning: it’s chilling.)

Before last week’s State of the Union speech, weren’t we told that Barack Obama was going to pivot” back to jobs? Why is that necessary if the administration has been doing the great job of facilitating job creation that they told us about before the election? Didn’t he say in June that “the private sector is doing fine?”

Could the fact that there are 3.2 million fewer jobs in our economy than there were in December 2007 have anything to do with that need for the One’s umpteenth “pivot” back to jobs?
