Illinois to get Concealed Carry… But not you Chicago.

Despite the big win for the 2nd Amendment, and Illinois residents in the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, it seems that Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart and Chicago Police Superintendent Geri Mc Carthy want to decide the issue of concealed carry for you.  They will decide if you really need a gun.  (Maybe if you beg they will let you have one.)

From the Chicago Sun-Times:

Sheriff Tom Dart said Sunday that he is proposing a concealed-carry gun ordinance to keep Cook County from becoming the “Wild West.”

Dart said he’s worried about a stalemate in the General Assembly on a law to license people to carry concealed guns. If legislators don’t meet a June 9 court deadline to pass such a law, anyone with a state firearm owner’s identification card could legally walk anywhere in public with a concealed weapon, Dart said. …

Dart’s ordinance would give him the power to approve and reject licenses to carry concealed guns in Cook County. Applicants would have to pay a $300 fee for a license.

Gee, where’s my shocked face? A Cook County official has come up with a “solution” that not only involves his having absolute power, but also requires our paying more money to Cook County to exercise our God-given rights? Of course!

But will criminals see it the Sheriff’s way?  How safe do you feel?  Remember, 911= “Dial a Prayer.”

No Easter Egg Roll, but Food Stamps for Immigrants, and Free Phones for Drug Dealers?

Earlier today, the White House floated its latest phony crisis, the possible cancellation of the White House Easter egg roll. From Politico:

The next casualty of sequestration could be the Easter Bunny – at least according to a White House e-mail that recently landed in Capitol Hill inboxes.

The White House warned Congress that budget uncertainties could nix the annual Easter Egg Roll for kids, which is planned for April 1.

“[B]y using these tickets, guests are acknowledging that this event is subject to cancellation due to funding uncertainty surrounding the Executive Office of the President and other federal agencies,” the White House cautioned, according to two Capitol Hill sources who provided the language. “If cancelled, the event will not be rescheduled.”

Really? No money for the Easter egg roll? That’s a shame, and also pretty ridiculous since the Easter egg roll is funded mostly by private money, but not nearly as bad as the threat to cancel meat inspections. Times must really be tough over the FDA, or maybe not …From Fox News:

Salmonella outbreaks. E. coli outbreaks. Millions of dollars in economic losses.

These are among the scenarios the Obama administration warned about last month as it claimed the sequester would force the U.S. Department of Agriculture to furlough meat inspectors.

But while the administration prepares to take that step, it continues to pursue a “partnership” with the Mexican government to “raise awareness” about food stamps among immigrants from that country. When a top Senate Republican proposed cutting off funds for that program last week — in the form of an amendment to a budget resolution — Democrats on the Budget Committee shot it down.

The Fox News piece details the efforts by Sen. Jeff Sessions to get to the bottom of this push to extend food stamp benefits to immigrants, which began during George W. Bush’s administration. (More about Sen. Sessions great work on this issue here.)Now we have 1.23 million immigrants on food stamps! And, at least in Illinois, you don’t even have to be a legal immigrant to get them. From Illinois Legal Aid:

Some programs in Illinois are available without checking on immigration status, including:

  • The Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants & Children (WIC)

  • Medical care for children under the All Kids program

  • Kindergarten through 12th grade public education, and school lunch and breakfast programs

  • Head Start

I guess that helps Agriculture Sec. Vilsack meet his goal of getting at least 75% of eligible people on food stamps.

Meanwhile, as we noted last month, many of the free cellphones provided by the Lifeline program may have been obtained fraudulently, and some of the downtrodden who are taking advantage of this essential government program, have more than one phone. Check out this local news report from Baltimore detailing the success drug dealers have getting their hands on one of these taxpayer-subsidized phones.

Now back to work, Serf. You’ve got a lot of people to support.

GUN CONTROLLERS ARE ON THE MOVE IN CHICAGO’S NORTHERN SUBURBS

Attention, supporters of the 2nd Amendment: GUN CONTROLLERS ARE ON THE MOVE IN CHICAGO’S NORTHERN SUBURBS

(Note: you can follow my live twitter stream of the State of the Union speeches on your smart phone if you have one, so no worries.)

WHAT: Village Council Meeting to Consider Gun Bans, Licensing, and Registration

WHERE: Northbrook Village Hall, 1225 Cedar Ln, Northbrook, IL 60062

WHEN: Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 7:30 PM
(plan to be there by 6:45 so you can get a seat)

WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT:

North suburban gun control groups are trying to establish a foothold to implement their plans to ban your guns, register you like a sex offender, and otherwise infringe upon your 2nd Amendment rights. These people must be stopped or their efforts will grow like an epidemic. The northern suburbs are fertile ground for the gun grabbers, it is up to law-abiding gun owners from across Illinois to nip these gun control plans in the bud. THIS IS NOT JUST A NORTHBROOK PROBLEM – IT IS A PROBLEM FOR EVERY ILLINOIS FIREARM OWNER!

We need as many lawful firearm owners at this event as possible. Remember to be at the site by 6:45 PM so that the gun controllers cannot pull their old trick of closing the doors early so as to deny you your right to speak in defense of our Constitution.

Be sure to wear NRA, ISRA or IGOLD shirts and hats – we want to fill the room with a sea of gold.

Remember to be polite, but assertive when defending your rights. Seek out members of the press and tell them you are a law abiding firearm owner and that you are sick and tired of being made a scapegoat for criminals and the unsupervised mentally ill.

Please distribute this alert to your friends and family.

Please post this alert to any and all internet bulletin boards or blogs to which you belong.

Remember: Gun control is a disease, and you are the cure.

Don’t You Hate It When Liberal Agendas Collide, and Other Random Thoughts

Is it just me …

,or does anyone else find it ridiculous to see Chris Matthews standing in front of Mt. Rushmore praising the freedom that the Founders fought for, when he has a man crush on a guy whose lifelong dream was giving the federal government the power and life and death over every single American? Oh, you haven’t seen that? Of course you haven’t. I forgot. I watch so you don’t have to. Trust me. The 24/7 nuthouse is running this promo for the Screamer during its regular programming. Chris, let me clue you in. Watching the Oval Office occupied by this Marxist bunch has the Founders spinning in their graves so fast that we could slice meat on their corpses!

,or do you also just hate it when liberal agendas collide?  Here’s the latest. Day care makes kids fat. So, Moochelle Obama’s crusade against childhood obesity has run smack into the career aspirations that she and her feminist allies say all women should desire. What’s a modern woman to do? Put on the power suit, grab the briefcase, drop off the kid at day care, only to discover she’s raising a future Michael Moore? Talk about a war on women!

,or did you also ever think that there would never be a governor that would be so buffoonish that he would make California’s Gov. Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown look like sane? Illinois governor Pat Quinn has done it. I’ve always told you that liberals are like children, with the luxury in indulging their silly, unrealistic beliefs and their predictable tantrums over the “unfairness” of life. Now, Gov. Pruneface has produced a ridiculous video to “educate” the public, featuring some typical, jowly, political foot soldier, narrating this unintentionally hilarious and amateurish production. (Scroll down to see it.). There’s only one question about this video. It’s not “why are the democrats being so dishonest about how we got into this mess?” or “Couldn’t they find anyone to star in this ridiculous waste of time who has a face that you could look at without shuddering?” No, there are actually two questions; specifically, (1) “how many thousands of taxpayer dollars did the Gov’s office spend on this mess?” and (2) “which politician’s relative produced it?”

This is It. Let’s Do This Thing.

I told you during last Sunday’s show that I don’t buy into the CW (Conventional Wisdom) that we’re going to have a late night. I think we’ll know pretty early that Mitt Romney has been elected after we get the results from Virginia and Florida when the polls close at 7 p.m. Eastern. Ohio (7:30 pm Eastern) and Pennsylvania (8 pm Eastern).

Having said that, none of our enthusiasm and optimism amounts to a hill of beans if we don’t get out and vote, and get others to do the same. If you have time, phone bank for Mitt Romney. There is still time to make a difference.

If you’re one of those who tell yourself that it doesn’t matter because you live in a blue state that Obama will carry, you couldn’t be more wrong. For example, consider those of you who live Illinois. Even though I am confident that the One will take Illinois’ 20 electoral votes, it’s still important for you to vote for the Republicans running for state representative and state senator to try to stop Mike Madigan’s reign of terror in Springfield.

Speaking of which, as you know, we’ve been following the race in the 18th State Senate in Illinois, and I urge you to vote for Dr. Barbara Bellar. She is pro-life, pro-Second Amendment and pro-taxpayer, Plus, she will do everything she can to stop Madigan and his democrat mob from continuing to drive productive citizens out of this state with their crushing taxes.

I don’t need to say it, but I will any way: EVERY SINGLE VOTE COUNTS.

Let’s do this thing.

Ask Teri: Mike Madigan and His Democrat Cabal Try to Pull Another Fast One, The Proposed Illinois Constitutional Amendment

Recently, I received a note from one of our SL’s (Smart Listener), who is also a subscriber to the Teri O’Brien Show. It read:

Do you know anything about this proposed Amendment to the IL Constitution?  Do you know where I can find out the conservative view on it?  On the surface it looks like something I’d support.  But Mike Madigan sponsored it so that concerns me.  I just don’t see how something like this that appears to be fiscally conservative could get through in IL.  I don’t trust them!

First, let me say how much I appreciate this SL’s support of the show. It helps us keep the lights on. If you value the information you get here, and on the Teri O’Brien Show, please consider subscribing. As little as $5/month, makes a huge difference here. You can click on the yellow buttons on the right side of the top of the page to either subscribe, or make a one-time contribution. Thanks so much!

SL, your intelligence is showing, not only because you like the show, but because you view anything sponsored by current Illinois Speaker of the House and Chairman of the Illinois State Democrat Party Mike Madigan with suspicion. For readers who don’t know much about Mike Madigan, and why his involvement in any legislation raises a red flag, please check out this column from the Chicago Tribune’s always insightful John Kass. Mike Madigan runs the IL democrat party, and under its fine stewardship, this state his been run into the ground. It has $85 billion in unfunded pension liabilities and $8 billion in other unpaid bills. Businesses and productive citizens are fleeing the high taxes. Madigan accepts no responsibility for any of it.

So what does the amendment say and what would it do? To put it simply, as the folks at BallotPedia state “If passed, the measure would require a three-fifths approval by the General Assembly, city councils, and school districts that wish to increase the pension benefits of their employees.” Here’s the text, from the official Illinois General Assembly website. It would take effect on January 9, 2013.

This amendment is exactly what I would expect from the sleazy pols who run this state, with Madigan at the top of the garbage heap. It is a cynical attempt to allow him to pretend that he and his party, which runs this state, are doing something about the fiscal mess, when in fact it would do nothing to fix the real problem; specifically, that Illinois has spent billions it doesn’t have and has borrowed billions to keep spending.

So, is it good idea to require supermajorities to increase spending even more? As we say about chicken soup, it couldn’t hurt, but as a practical matter, it’s not going to fix anything, and voters shouldn’t be fooled into thinking it will. Does that mean we should vote against it? In my opinion, no. In theory, it’s a good thing. Public employee unions oppose it because they oppose anything that makes it harder to spend more on public employee goodies. One thing we need to do is pass some actual pension legislation that will shore up the system by requiring bigger employee contributions, higher retirement ages, and reduction in the amounts paid to cronies to manage the pension funds. This amendment doesn’t touch any of those things. The Illinois Policy Institute calls it a “do nothing” amendment, and they are correct. I will probably vote in favor of it anyway because I don’t want to send a message to the clowns in Springfield that I’m not concerned about their profligate spending. I also understand those who say not to vote on it either way, precisely because it’s a ridiculous charade.

The real solution to Illinois’ fiscal woes is to get rid of one-party control, and for people to stop voting for the democrats who have destroyed this state.
