Yet again, President Obama’s Thanksgiving message eschewed any direct reference to thanking God, making this the fourth straight year in which the President of the United States has ignored the central message of the holiday in favor of political grandstanding.
This year, Obama’s central message was that now that he’s been re-elected, Americans should agree with all of his policies.
As Ben points out in the cited article, the Thanksgiving proclamations issued by the Obama White House DO include mention of God, but he doesn’t read those publicly, and so he doesn’t have to face the embarrassment of having to say the “G” word in front of his swooning acolytes.
I know what some of you are thinking. “This guy is a godless Marxist! What the heck do you expect!” Point taken, however, I think there may be more to it than that. Recall this embarrassing exchange between Newsweek’s Evan Thomas and MS-NBC’s Chris “the Screamer” Matthews, in which the former noted that Obama is “sort of God.” (Aside: Chris Matthews’ mention of Barack Obama’s great vision is especially embarrassing today, given what’s going on the Middle East.)
Recall also my interview with Professor John Lott, in which he explained Obama’s propensity for refusing to debate issues. As I reminded Professor Lott, gods don’t debate. They issue decrees. And, now I might add, that when they deliver Thanksgiving messages, they don’t need to mention other gods.
