One thing I think we know for sure about Christine O’Donnell; George Soros didn’t pay her college tuition. Can we say the same thing about Barack Obama? Are you sure? Not only have we not seen any of his records from his tenure at either Occidental or Columbia. Other than hearing him and Michelle whine about how difficult it was for them to pay off their college loans, notwithstanding her $300,000+ year “community outreach” (read protection against assertions of “racism” by “community organizers”) job, we know very little about how either Barack Obama or his wife financed their fancy (albeit affirmative action facilitated) educations.
Suddenly, the inside-the-Beltway crowd is incredibly curious about the background of one particular candidate, Christine O’Donnell. Her credit history, her college loans, the foreclosure of her house and whether she favors a firm or soft toothbrush–ok, I made that last one up, but you get the idea. We’re told that it’s essential to know every minuscule detail about the life of Christine O’Donnell, who according to Karl Rove and his fellow members of the ruling cabal, has a very checkered past. First of all, Karl and friends, we’re talking about Congress here. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but currently members in good standing, at least pending several ethics probes, include:
and which previously included
To quote Woody Allen, these are politicians. Their ethics are a notch underneath child molester. As far as I know, she didn’t leave anyone to drown after a night of partying, commit mail fraud or accept donations after obtaining taxpayer money for a crony. Somehow I’m not the slightest bit concerned about Ms. O’Donnell lowering the overall ethics average of this bunch.
Mr. Rove also seems quite concerned about Ms. O’Donnell’s alleged tax problems. I think he may have a point here. Instead of running for Senate, if in fact she has had difficulty paying the IRS, she should be in line for a gig in the Obama administration. How is she with Turbo Tax? Completely flummoxed by it? Sounds like Treasury Secretary material to me!
Of course, I’m not the least bit surprised by this turn of events. As this very insightful blog post explains, the elites, particularly those barely hanging on to the edges of their membership in the cool kids’ club by the tips of their fingers because they are–Gasp!–Republicans, can’t risk being tainted by association with unsophisticated, hayseed, Christian, state-school attending, mouth-breathing, bitter clingers.
Or maybe this is all a strategy orchestrated by Mr. Rove and the O’Donnell campaign to raise campaign funds for her. If so, it seems to be working. As much as I abhor the corrosive cynicism of our age, I have often echoed the wise words of Lily Tomlin: No matter how cynical you get, it is impossible to keep up.
