Right or Wrong, this is a perfect example of what not to do in an armed comfrontation with criminals, particularly in Illinois.  Do not fire unless either fired upon or if you are in imminent danger from a crowbar- or knife-wielding maniac, or multiple attackers, for example. Not every state has a “castle doctrine” or “stand your ground law. In those jurisdictions, you may have a duty to retreat. The takeaway: know your state’s and/or municipality’s gun laws.
