Sen. Marco Rubio

He had the most memorable lines, and is clearly a stellar debater. He will be the Establishment choice once Jeb faces reality and drops out to “spend more time with his family” or whatever explanation they come up with. He still has a problem, in that many of us don’t trust him on the issue of amnesty, which he clearly still supports, (and his claim that the rise of ISIS over the last 24 months didn’t ring true) but as far as last night’s performance, he did very well.

Sen. Ted Cruz

Like Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz is an excellent debater, and he had many memorable lines. His explanation of how we know that Obama hates the 2nd Amendment was outstanding (see below). He

Donald Trump

As the clear front runner, he only had to not step in it, which he didn’t. He also won the “New York values” argument with Sen. Cruz with his eloquent comments about 9/11. And, he had the only one word answer (“No”), which highlights what people love about him. No BS, just what he really thinks, which happens to coincide with what a lot of the GOP base thinks.

Hands down, once again the loser, not only for his insufferable endless answers, but also because he flat out lied on the issue of Donald Trump’s proposal to pause Muslim refugee resettlement until someone in our government can tell us who they are. He said ” I — I’ve been for pausing on admitting the Syrian refugees. And the reasons why I’ve done is I don’t believe we have a good process of being able to vet them.” Really, Governor? Then can you explain your answer in this appearance on Fox News Sunday from last August?

Someone should tell this pathetic RINO a couple of things; specifically, (1) there’s this thing called ‘video tape,’ which is actually no longer tape, but a digital record of events that occurred, you know, like you saying you favor importing Syrian Muslim refugees and (2) the bizarre hand gestures that you seem unable to control and stop don’t distract enough from what you’re saying to make you sound rational.

Unfortunately, he did poorly. Clearly, he’s a great guy, and has more accomplishment in his little finger than the entire Democrat party has in the collective bodies of every member. Still, he made some very bad missteps, including responding to his first question by complaining that it took 20 minutes to get to him. That just  makes a person look like a whiner. Second, most of his answers were unresponsive to the questions being asked. For example, the following exchange:

[W]hat do you think of the notion that Hillary Clinton is an enabler of sexual misconduct?

CARSON: Well, there’s not question that we should be able to look at past president whether they’re married to somebody who’s running for president or not in terms of their past behavior and what it means. But you know, here’s the real issue, is this America anymore? Do we still have standards? Do we still have values and principles?

You know, you look at what’s going on, you see all the divisiveness and the hatred that goes on in our society. You know, we have a war on virtual everything — race wars, gender wars, income wars, religious wars, age wars. Every war you can imaging, we have people at each other’s throat and our strength is actually in our unity.

You know, you go to the internet, you start reading an article and you go to the comments section — you cannot go five comments down before people are calling each all manner of names. Where did that spirit come from in America? It did not come from our Judeo-Christian roots, I can tell you that. And wherever it came from we need to start once again recognizing that there is such a thing as right and wrong. And let’s not let the secular progressives drive that out of us.

The majority of people in American actually have values and principles and they believe in the very things that made America great. They’ve been beaten into submission. It’s time for us to stand up for what we believe in.

So is Hillary an enabler or not? See what I mean.

Jeb Bush

Boring, shoulder-shrugging, the usual Jeb schtick. It seemed like, as you would expect from the home state of Nikki Haley and Sen. Lindsay Graham, the crowd was pretty pro-Establishment, but even that really didn’t help his performance. As I have been saying for months, Jeb, please drop out!

Chris Christie

Usual bluster, and got a big hand for saying of Obama “The American people have rejected your agenda and now you’re trying to go around it. That’s not right. It’s not constitutional. And we are going to kick your rear end out of the White House come this fall.” (one of the most tweeted moments) but I think his time has passed, and he has too much amnesty and gun control baggage.

Great lines:

“Today, many of us picked up our newspapers, and we were horrified to see the sight of 10 American sailors on their knees, with their hands on their heads.

In that State of the Union, President Obama didn’t so much as mention the 10 sailors that had been captured by Iran. President Obama’s preparing to send $100 billion or more to the Ayatollah Khamenei. And I’ll tell you, it was heartbreaking.

But the good news is the next commander-in-chief is standing on this stage.

I give you my word, if I am elected president, no service man or service woman will be forced to be on their knees, and any nation that captures our fighting men will feel the full force and fury of the United States of America.”

You know, a minute ago, Neil asked: What has President Obama do — done to illustrate that he wants to go after guns?

Well, he appointed Eric Holder as attorney general. Eric Holder said he viewed his mission as brainwashing the American people against guns. He appointed Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, someone who has been a radical against the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

He launched Fast and Furious, illegally selling guns to Mexican drug lords that were then used to shoot law enforcement officials. And I’ll tell you what Hillary Clinton has said: Hillary Clinton says she agrees with the dissenters — the Supreme Court dissenters in the Heller case.

There were four dissenters, and they said that they believe the Second Amendment protects no individual right to keep and bear arms whatsoever, which means, if their view prevailed and the next president’s going to get one, two, three, maybe four Supreme Court justices, the court will rule that not a single person in this room has any right under the Second Amendment and the government could confiscate your guns.

And I’ll note that California senator — Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein said, if she could say to Mr. America and Mrs. America, “give me your guns, I’m rounding them up,” she would.

Trump  ‘It’s The New York Times. They’re Always Wrong’

Rubio  The Second Amendment Is Not An Option’ saying he’s convinced Obama would get rid of it if he could

“Hillary Clinton is disqualified from being commander in chief of the United States. Someone who cannot handle intelligence information appropriately cannot be commander in chief and someone who lies to the families of those four victims in Benghazi can never be president of the United States. Ever.”

Rubio “Barack Obama does not believe that America is a great global power. Barack Obama believes that America is a arrogant global power that needs to be cut down to size. And that’s how you get a foreign policy where we cut deals with our enemies like Iran and we betray our allies like Israel and we gut our military and we go around the world like he has done on 10 separate occasions and apologized for America.”

“[Y]ou know, in the 2012 election, you know, we — and when I say we, Republicans — tore themselves apart.

You know, we have to stop this because, you know, if we manage to damage ourselves, and we lose the next election, and a progressive gets in there and they get two or three Supreme Court picks, this nation is over as we know it. And we got to look at the big picture here.”

By the way, the issue of who is an Article II “Natural Born Citizen” is still unresolved.

  1. The debate was not really a debate. There were occasional back and forth, but it was not a real debate. Kasich and Bush should bow out
(dis)gracefully, please. Good point about a hostile audience, pro-establishment.
The 14th Amendment is the issue on natural born citizen. Liberals push for an interpretation that supports “anchor babies”, but the genesis of the 14th was to clarify that slaves were natural born. Over and out. coming here to drop a kid, get all the benefits and go back to Mexico or China was not the reason for the 14th. Later laws still did not really clarify it sufficiently. However, with the SOTUS we have, may make it a real crap shoot. Stand by.
Rubio was right on Oblamo, he believes like Re. Wright, “God damn America”. He and his he/she Michele/Michael both are in the same camp.
Also, remember the Dem hypocrisy, Feinstein wants to confiscate all the guns, except hers. She has a concealed carry permit!
Trump in a New York minute!

    • I so agree about Kasich and Bush. Please, merciful God, get these two to drop out!
I think that the 14th amendment is more about birthright citizenship, and I agree with you that the drafters of that amendment never intended to give citizenship to anchor babies. The key phrase is “subject to the jurisdiction thereof,” which means not foreigners. Duh! I think that Congress could pass a statute clarifying that and get rid of this heinous idea of birthright citizenship. On the other hand, “natural born citizen” is a term used in the Constitution in one, and only one, instance: Article II. I have always agreed with the most strict definition of this term, which means a person born on American soil whose parents are both American citizens at the time of his/her birth. I acknowledge that everyone doesn’t agree with that. If they did, Obama would have been disqualified. And, I’ll say again that as much as I admire Sen. Ted Cruz, and agree with much of what he says, had I been he, and not born on American soil, I would never have considered myself eligible to run for president.
Rubio 100% correct about Obama despising this country. That’s one reason I have called him “President Payback” for years. It’s maddening that people could have voted for someone who never hid his hatred for the Constitution and the Founders!
Oh yeah, all these liberals are complete phony hypocrites on guns. I’m sure that you saw yesterday’s post about the Hollywood idiots at the Golden Globes.
So will Trump be the nominee? What say you?

  2. He was. Get ready!

  3. Carly was amazing, but she usually is. Very articulate and intelligent. Cruz did very well. Christie was OK, but I think his time has passed.
